well like i say i use linux and will never in my life go back to windows. My linux starts and close in 1 minute, windows i need whole life to be sarcastic. I only go to windows to paly Americs army when im very bored, sometimes i restart computer before it even goes to Windows since im so piss of slownest of that OS. Not to talk about viruses spyshit and crap that you can get in windows. Also i need to open 500 firefox windows, in windows i cant even open 5, it crash... so for me this is not in same rank even. This is like ferrari versus Fiat
I think that people who vote for linux know more about OS than those that vote for windows. Since many windows users dont use linux and never did use one. But after 1 month of using linux and then going back to windows you will see and ask WTF is this Comodore 64?
I agree the majority of windows users probably have never stepped out of that box to see the outside options.
I prefer vista. I got vista installed on my laptop and my desktop pc. Actually I'm got ubuntu installet on my desktop, but that's more to test server settings and more. I've installed some windows apps on ubuntu because of Wine, a windows api emulator.. Works fine with photoshop, steam (for games) etc. Vista works fine for me, and I can't see why people says it's running slow etc. Maybe there is some problems with 512mb of RAM, but I think that most people has at least 1 gigs now... It was the same when XP came.. Then we had to have (whoa!) 512mb RAM, instead of the 256mb we were used to at that time. I've experienced that vista runs smoother and faster than XP on my laptop. Load times is faster, programs runs faster, and my games run with a 20% higher fps than when I had XP. Now, I'm looking forward to see what Windows 7 can bring, with the new, modified kernel (MinWin)
linux is strongest competitor of the darm multi billion company, brought to you by 21 year old guy for free, not bad must i say The idea of linux is that it's made for techies, not for a simple user who don't know nothing in programming, well you can still use linux if you are not techie, but you must know how to use google to find what you want and must have kahunies to do this
The worn out and tired response that Linux is difficult to install/use/only for nerds, just no longer holds water. Both Ubuntu and OpenSuse have broader hardware support than any version of Windows. In particular, both install on older hardware and perform far better than their Windows counterparts. As for ease of use - I converted my parents and in-laws from Windows to Linux in the last year (70-82 years old), and they all figured it out just fine. And, my support phone calls have essentially stopped. It's a no-brainer - Windows is dying a slow death on the desktop. One need look no further than the server, where their butts were kicked 3 years ago. I give them another 5 years...and the only reason they'll stick around that long, is they have enough cash to buy a few small countries.
Linux OSEs like XandrOs is a superb alternative to Windows. But peoples perception about linux is such that majority of the home users stay away from it. Secondly the gaming market (PC). Since DX/10 is a proprietary tech, its impossible to port it to linux. Thridly, MAC has established itself as a good alternative to Windows. This has shifted a lot of focus from linux. Those who voted for Vista (inlcuding me) have voted because of the fact that it is a known platform. Even though I dabble with ubuntu on my desktop, a lot of users shy away from linux. Lastly no one has force a single OS down anyones throat. If you wanna use linux or Mac or Windows for that matter, its the choice of the end user.
You are so damn right. They never tried Linux, that's why they say Vista is better. Anyway, Mac is also much better than Vista. Microsoft Windows products are so overrated.
Its like comparing apples with oranges. Though they are both fruits but have different benifits. Some people like oranges because it taste good others like apples just to keep the doctor away . Some are like me who hate doctors and love the taste of oranges.
