    I can't tell if it's based upon other search engine's results or is crawling on its own.

    What are your thoughts?

    Yes, I made a couple queries and it extracts from other search engines. There are actually few engines worldwide that actually have their own search engine crawler spider technology, spidering servers, and cache/storage databases to store 10's of millions of websites info. Its not as simple as crawling the www and storing the data. The key to Google is its ability to analyze every aspect of their spidered data to provide users with only relevant results.
