I just registered: industrialandcommercialbankofchina.com I'ts only one of the (if not the largest) bank in China...something tells me I might have issues with the domain regarding trademark law but I just could resist registering it. That said...the domain is...well...very long and because of the length...probably not the most desirable domain. I'm not sure what to think here...any thoughts regarding value or law? Thanks.
I believe that the domain name was not registered because China wants its users to access the bank's website fairly quickly. The bank uses this domain - http://www.icbc.com.cn. See it is short and easy to remember. No one wants to have a really long domain name unless it is a good domain name and easy to remember. I do not know the value of the domain, but I think that you are not violating any law since you are free to register any domain name you want as long as it does not breach a company's copyrighted name.
They can require you to hand over the domain and will probably do so if they find out. I guess the reason for not being registered is that they usually use ICBC.
The domain is definitely loooooong. No question about that. Regardless...it seems that a financial institution of that size and power would have registered the domain if it was of value to them. If the name becomes an issue then I'll deal with it appropriately. Thanks for the replies!
Why bother registering it? you now have a potential trademark claim and you have a very long worthless domain name, there are thousands of other domains that would have been a much better waste of $7-10
yeah i also think that it's so long so they just use ICBC so i think it was a waste that you have bought it and you may face some troubles regarding the trademark law
