Hi, i am writing an ebook. I've read some how-to books on marketing and one idea is to post at forums related to my topic. I have not yet finished the ebook. Should i begin posting at the related forums now or after I finish the book?

Which way is more effective? Before or after?

Start posting at forums now and build up your reputation. Don't start by joining a forum and being like "hi I'm new here. Oh yeah, buy my ebook!"

Any book that states that method probably isn't much of a book.

Even though your book isn't finished doesn't mean you can try to start a buz now.

Yes.....post to the forums. But in your signature place a link to a landing page where you describe what you are about to sell. Make it intriguing enough that someone would want to get on a "notification" list when your product actually is released.

List juicy bullet points on what problems your ebook is going to help the reader solve.

This is also a good way to determine how popular your book may become.

Maybe you can "leak" a few chapters as well. Have them opt in to get the "leaked" chapters. If your content is solid and you don't reveal too much...they will be ready to purchase the day you release it.

Do you know how to create simple landing pages with an opt-in? That would be the first thing I'd start to to.

Post on forums now. You can see what type of questions people are asking and they'll get to know and trust you if you offer helpful content. You might want to start build a list, with your sig file going to a sign up sheet for your newsletter. Then, when your ebook is finished you will already have a list in your niche.

Jason is right on the money with this advice. I recommend you also check out Robert Middleton's Action Plan Marketing. Good solid advice on increasing business by raising your profile as an expert by giving away hi quality samples of your products/services. He also created a pretty good marketing forum as a free bonus for people who buy his books and audio seminars. Good place to sound out marketing ideas and questions.
