What defines a related link?

I have an occult forum, which is linked to from my signature here. It surely is not all that related to a webmastering forum. But what if I posted in politics and religion? Would it be related there? What if I filled this post with pagan terms or described a magickal ritual... would it be related, even though I'm posting it here at Digital Point?

They say that one good way to build links is to submit to directories. I should be able to assume that a listing in society/religion/esoteric and Occult/chats and forums/ would be related... but what if I got a featured listing that displayed across the directory? Would the links in other parts of the directory count (because other parts of the site are related)?

I think the main question I am getting at is just what defines a related link. Is it the page it's on? Is it the site? Do both make a difference?

Thank you, your post on the second page was very helpful...

heh, you even used words related to my niche ;)

I likely would have caught that on my own, but I hit unsubscribe yesterday rather then actually clicking into the thread... then I just didn't bother.

    So thanks again.

No problem. It's a good question, just the same. :)
