Hi, I've been reading about mini sites to target specific keywords built around articles. I' going to try to create a few ones and I would like to know your opinion about using .info vs .com domains. What do you think? Thanks n
hello there ive read over a few forums that googles doesnt like these kind of websites meaning that they dont rank them too high in web searches and people using duplicate content from free article websites. However you can still go ahead and down them they may or maynot be taken down its up to you
hi ... thanks for you opinion, but since the content will be unique is there any problem with this? What about .info versus .com?
In all I would go for the .com as it has a stronger presence its always annoys me if i cant get the .com. As for the unique content I dont see why not it should be fine. But remember to still updates these websites with new content
I've been doing this with some success (I made almost $300 last month - nothing huge but it's my best result so far and I'm hoping it will grow exponentially soon ). The thing is though is that if you rely on google as your main source of income, you're going to get screwed when google changes their algorithm and dumps your domain... or in my case, my hundreds of domains. For this reason, I've started mitigating this by only getting good domain names so that even when it doesn't work out, at least I've got a good domain name that I can sell the domain for a profit - (always go .com!) There's a good domain on auction now at eBay (FinestRoses.com) for $7 if you're keen on roses as your niche. I've also spotted a few other ones which I'll be posting about soon on DomainHolics.com
Indeed, i share your oppinion. It doesnt matter for google if you have a .com or .info domain. The only problem (as I know) with .info is that it has a bad reputation because lots of scams come from .info domains, so it might keep some of possible visitors away.
I somehow agree and not agree with you. Yes, .com is more trusted and professional (and more expensive), but .info can be better for informational sites on a specific niche. For example if you have a site at health.info, it will probably rank higher for the keyword "health info" than health.com, since the word "info" is included in the URL, no matter if it's the TLD of it, and keywords in the URL really do matter, which has been discussed a lot of times, thats why blogs use pages such as blog.com/example-article-title-with-keywords. Thats all IMO of course.
I agree with mrgee, for informational sites i think .info would work okay. And if you have good quality content and constantly updated, you should index fine. It's an experiment I'm working on, and I'll be interested to see how it pans out. If the sites rank well and are well monetized, that should mitigate the TLD if and when you decide to sell. I think you have to build trust no matter what your TLD is, so that should be your goal, unique, frequently updated quality info.
But most times people won't be typing in the domain name. Instead they'll click on a link from another website or from search engine, so you want to get indexed and ranked high in the search engines and build link backs.
What about adsense? Since most mini sites have 3 or 4 pages, doesn't this goes against TOS even with unique content?
Try to buy some 100 .info domains target each domain for specific keywords am sure you can earn more than you are earning now . i am actually planning to do this with 1000 sites .
