I launched a website recently and it's getting no traffic at all. I've heard that some people are able to get a good number of hits within the first several days?? How is that possible?? I'm now looking to submit my site to some directories and possible send out some articles. My question about article marketing is that are you supposed to give up all rights to your article to market your site? And does this method really work? I know the general idea, but can someone elaborate more on article marketing and give some tips? I've found a good list of sites at this guy's website. http://adsenselatestkeywords.blogspot.com/2008/02/list-of-websites-for-articles-how-to.html

Do you understand enough about SEO to write pages that use keyword-based titles and have good on-page SEO characteristics? That will help get traffic into the site over time. I've written about this on my blog, but my opinion is that article marketing is more about the SEO benefit of backlinks than actual traffic. Other people have had different results, but that's been my view. You do get some traffic from articles, but it isn't anything like a constant stream. But the backlinks from the articles are picked up by Google, and help to boost your rankings for the keywords you've targeted (see the first comment about SEO). Here's the series I wrote on article marketing, you might find it helpful. There's also the aspect to marketing a site of creating a buzz in your niche's community. Hit the social networking sites that are appropriate to the niche and try to get some interest stirred up. That's the easiest way to get quick traffic, although it doesn't stick around for the long-term. Jay
Article marketing can be very effective for getting traffic. The key is to target long-tail (less competitive) keywords so the article has a chance of showing at the top of Google search. Make a list of longer keyword phrases, which are relevant to your site, and search on those terms in Google wrapped in quotes. This will show only the pages that are using that exact keyword phrase. Find phrases with less than say 8000 results and write the article targeting the less competitive phrase. If you see adwords ads, it's a good indication that people are actually using those keyword phrases to find information. Ezinearticles is, by far, the best bet for getting the article in the top of Google SERPS. Don't submit the same article to more than a few article directories.
I need help coming up with a main keyword for my site, in submitting articles. Any suggestions...? It's a weight loss site http://vibranthealthmedia.blogspot.com/ and maybe if I use "weight loss" as a keyword there would be too much competition, should I use something like safe weight loss or natural weight loss?
Write articles. Stumbleupon. Signatures, blogs and make sure you direct traffic from this blog to your website. Blogger is great for this. However, I know some people prefer wordpress. Blog posting, blog comments. Keep at this momentum and you will soon start to see an increase in traffic. You can also buy traffic too....
Check out Travis Sago's stuff in Bum Marketing, www.bummarketingmethod.com (it's free) as he has a great system for article marketing. Also download the free ebook in my sig. Tells you all about how to get traffic and build backlinks without worrying about Google. Pay particular attention to the chapter on article marketing, as it has a very ingenious twist for the resource box and shows you why you shouldn't worry about others having your article. Heh you WANT them to take it. Also if your site is geared to marketers or webmasters you might want to offer them the book as a free download to build your list. If it's a weightloss site find something relating to that, that you can give away free. I wouldn't bother buying traffic though, as you might get visitors but they rarely buy anything or click adsense ads, even if they are allegedly 'targeted'. At least that's been my experience. Keep at it and traffic will start coming. As others have mentioned, don't forget to use Stumble Upon to 'stumble' your site - do it on all of your pages.
Well, what is your definiton of "good number"??? For me, if it's, say, a couple of hundred, that doesn't cut it. As for how they gets hits, period, it can be from ads, submitting articles, word of mouth, signatures, social networks.... Not when submiting to article directories, such as ezinearticles.com. Some webmasters demand this because of this ridiculous notion of "duplicate content." They are far and inbetween, so don't worry about it. Just move on to the next webmaster. And, yes, article marketing does work. If you know what you are doing. Before submitting your articles, first get them critiqued. Ask your family, friends, other message board members.... It would help if you told what is the subject(s) you are writing on.
If you ever used stumble before. Try this program here. It's basically an autostumbler, it'll get you lotta traffic
