Yea, I'm glad I found this thread too. I wish I had received an email as to what is going on with globat.com I had a pretty massive flash file on my FTP that I was presenting to a creative department in LA this morning, and nearly freaked out when I couldn't access my site. This downtime is severely inconvenient and cost me a great deal of business. Luckily I had a backup of the site on my computer and was able to retrieve the files necessary for the presentation. Hopefully we'll be back up and running soon so I can cancel my account and move to a host that is more reliable. These auto-renewals, and opt-out offers are ridiculous. They are sent to my spam folder and unless I happen to see one of them, I get to see a $59 charge to my credit card when I get my statement. Of course, globat refuses to refund my money... Kinda used to it by now. What a racket.
Well the law suit can be against you too for posting and flaming the host without acquiring reasons behind this downtime. Also keep in mind that certain underground being cut off can cause some connection or delayed problems in network and noone can do anything about it. Usually it got solved in a week or so. Or sometimes sooner in 24 hours.
It's not the downtime, it's if this company goes under and those of us with domains registered through globat.com lose them. They put THEIR information into the whois, so basically our domains that we paid for are 100% in their control. Also, the automatic rebills & upgrades are a whole other issue, (they charged me too without sending an email or notice).
me to!! my site has been REALL REALLY slow. I'm not able to edit got rejected from google Adsense because of them i had them for over a month is their anyway i can get a refund and leave to another company?
my site's still down!! F this...i'm bailing now and getting hosting elsewhere. There's a million cheap web hosting companies out there...you may not get superior customer service or speedy responses with all of them, but when your site is down you should be able to get through to a LIVE person and get to the bottom of it in a speedy time frame - especially if a site claims 99% uptime.
I've got mixed feelings about this. I noticed that HTTP services were down last night around 10pm MST. Everything else was up, though. I figured they were upgrading something, plus I had other things to do, so I didn't bother calling. I've been with Globat for 4 years now, and I have 4 sites hosted through them. I've had minimal complaints, but here's what I've learned in the time that I've had hosting through them: ***If you have a problem, call. I've had horrible experiences with their e-mail support, but outstanding experiences over the phone. It's rare that I say that, but really -- I've always been happy with my phone experiences with them. ***Domain renewal is buggy. I'm not sure if it's a real person doing it, or an automated process, but I'd occasionally see a site drop off because it wasn't renewed. Account renewal, on the other hand -- I haven't had a problem. I've since called and had my domains transferred TO me, and I handle them myself. This also gives me the option to move my hosting wherever I want, whenever I want, and I don't have to worry about "the man" keeping my domain names. Just call and ask them to do it. ***Those unbelievably annoying auto "opt in" offers that you get e-mail for -- *grits teeth...eye twitch*. I spent a year getting multiple offers every few months of "Congrats! We're going to charge your credit card in 2 days," and I didn't know what to do. I finally called and asked if I could set myself to auto "opt OUT" on every offer, and they got me set up while I was on the phone. When you call, just be polite and talk to them. Every business out there is going to have problems at one time or another. I, myself, will probably just forget about this brief outage. I don't have any business sites through them, I'm technically not losing any money (ok, 4 sites * ~20 cents/day), my users are being forgiving, and also I'm in a surprisingly forgiving mood as well, today. I probably won't become an irate customer until...say...tomorrow.
I did actually call before I found this forum, and the phone was busy. That is understandable -- with a major outage like this, and with only a few people manning 1st tier support, I really doubt if anyone will be able to get through until this cools down.
I was able to get through using this number The guy barely spoke English and couldn't do more than tell me the servers are down. I asked him if I could transfer my domains to another host and he hung-up on me.
it could be me cuz i sign up like 4 days ago for askwar.com and uploded a bunch files non stop. sorry people
Well, I've contacted two other web hosting services and it appears that a change over shouldn't be too bad. One thing that does concern me though is what recourse do I have if Globat refuses to provide me with the necessary authorization code to retain control of my domain and have it switched to another provider? I would prefer not to lose my domain name. The reason I ask is that their billing department will not give me a straight answer about cancelling my account, but they're saying they have incentives for me to stay. I don't want to stay as this point. I just want to move my site to a reliable host. Not just because of today's technical issue(s), but because I've been having serious Http connection problems with them for the past week and all they've been doing about it is apparently lying about providing a solution.
this is the third time this week globat has been down, but the first time that their actual site has been down too. Ive only been a customer for about a month and i am not impressed. The second time my sites wouldn't load i used their live chat and the guy was very short and said it was going to be up soon, and thanked me for my patience. he wouldn't answer me when i asked if this happened often (cause it was the second time in two days). now my sites (i have 5 with them) have all been down today like everyone else's on this forum and i can't even get to their own site. I also tried calling their numbers but only get busy signals. Question to those that have used this company for a long time - is this rare? i mean, i researched this company quite a bit and didn't see any real problems before signing up. If these continual outages are really just bad luck on the company and not something that happens a lot ill accept that, but i'd like to know if this is something that happens often so i can look into another company. Also, i got that email about the upgrade to 3000GB space/bandwidth for $50 bucks. I thought it sounded reasonable so didn't opt out. was that stupid? I mean, right now i only have 1000GB of each so to increase it i thought would be a good deal since one of my sites is getting more popular by the day (well, not today). Thanks for any help. MammaC
Now if that is the case their response is completely unprofessional and should be addressed by the management of the company.
You call enom.com and make a complaint. Globat is a reseller of their product, so enom can make it happen if Globat refuses to help you.
Well, here's sort of good news: I just called the tech line at 1 866 841 2300 and they stated they would e-mail me the necessary authorization code in about an hour. We'll see.
