How can this be an unexpected problem? Come on, someone please explain to me how a hosting firm with hundreds of thousands of customers that rely on them be shut down for hours or even days at a time with no safeguards in place? This should not occur and maybe it should be a wake up call to all of us to find a reputable firm with proper safeguards in place. I can understand a fuel tank from a failed spy satellite slamming into their server farm, or a masked gunman that just happened upon their doorsteps, an arsonist who just wanted to set the place ablaze or a 8.1 magnitude earthquake with the epicenter within feet of their center but not an "unexpected" situation!
My e-mail seems to be back up also, but there is a 16 hour gap since my last e-mail. That means, definitely, that some are missing! I've been fielding phone calls from folks who wonder why I am ignoring their e-mails!
If you go to checkdns.net http://www.checkdns.net/quickcheck.aspx?domain=globat.com&detailed=1 you can see that Globat was completely shut down -- and no sites could resolve. It looks like one of their DNS servers is back up, and so email is working again. It also looks like they're gradually getting everything else back on line. I've been with them for 5 years now, and this is the first time that anything like this has happened. I have several clients, and have had only intermitant, normal issues -- which they have always responded to. Granted, the support isn't the greatest, but I tend to do my own support. You DO get what you pay for, but something REALLY drastic must have happened. I hope we find out, and also find out what Globat is going to do in way of compensation.... Graceout
Guys, I called godaddy my other provider and you can contact . http://icann.org/ and tell them Globat was down and you would like an authorization code to transfere the domain name to another provider. Since emails are back online, you can asks Globat to unlock the domain so you can transfer it.. These mystery charges are real. they charge my company almost 45 USD in upgrades monthly. If we dispute, something usually happens like my whole email lists and settings go missing No one replies why this happens in globat. you guys can stay.. but i am bailing .. Once bitten Trice Shy.. Good luck Crystalpayments . info
They need an option to say "DO NOT EVER EVER SEND ME E-MAIL THAT SAYS WE ARE GOING TO AUTOMATICALLY CHARGE YOUR CREDIT CARD" Sometimes I get out of pocket for weeks at a time. My wife has to check my e-mail when I am gone so we can catch those nice auto upgrades....
Unfortunately my Globat site has been down on and off since last Thursday 2/14. Their tech support person "Jay" (who is the same person every single time I use their tech support chat ) has told me every evening to be patient and that they are working on the problem. Mind you, he has no idea what the problem is I've been using Globat for three years now, and this past week has been the utmost lousy experience I've ever had with their company. If they are using old equipment that is contributing to the problems, then they have a responsibility to upgrade as necessary and be accountable to their customers. Don't advertise a 99.9% reliability rate if you're nowhere near it. BTW - It's been two days and I'm STILL waiting for billing to get back to me about changing my hosting service to another provider. Count me in as another person who came across this via "Globat Down" on Google.
I was about to say this too. Either this is an angry customers grouping in 1 forum by registering just to post in here or something's going on
well maybe two of the four might be considered unexpected whenever you consider what their customers have gone through with this outage
Hi for all, unfortunatelly since this past Jan 29th, 2008 when i received a notification from globat that my email servce will be upgrated i have delays for incomming email from 1 hour to 7 days. and nobody from this f...ing support people knows how to help me. The plan now is to recover my domain and move it to another supplier or try to manage the mail with my own server. this f...ing people of globat now is not a consistent option.
I am sure they are not out to shutdown there services. For some it may be best to move to a smaller host which can provide better support. I am sure that they are working to get things back up and running. If anyone needs hosting, or would like to switch there are many great sites here on DP. You should take a look. Regards, Kevin Ross
I called them and said if they ever upgraded me or my clients without a specific request to do so I would switch us all, and they stopped doing it. Nevertheless, it is a revolting ploy and today's events have convinced me it's time to stop procrastinating and move on.
Yeah, my email came back up also. Then DOWN AGAIN. And our web sites are still down so we're still losing business.
I stilll wonder how this can be an unexpected problem with todays technology and resources; especially with such a large firm with so many customers. I have to admit too that I googled to find out what happened to Glogat and found this site....THANK YOU for allowing us to vent our frustrations. I too think that enough is enough with the unsolicited emails, automatic updates and unauthorized billings, "unexpected" outages, poor technical support, etc. Anyone with suggestions as to where to go that has equivalent offerings that may be dependable as well or is that too much to ask?
I had the pleasure of speaking to Tom cox earlier this week Monday on a completely separate issue. I sent him an email this morning with no response. Has anyone gotten through on the phone lately or have their websites back up? i have 9 hosted with them...
My webmail's back up it resolves to webmail.globat.everyone.net. I received and replied to the sign-up email from webmail.
Guys- Globat is having a routing problem due to a hardware failure. I heard some sites and email are down and are due to come up in the next hour or two. –Mike
The email issues from a few weeks ago at Globat were because they moved everyone's mailboxes and accounts to one central server. But they didn't update their DNS tables, so suddenly no one could get to their 'real' servers. We kept trying to get to the old servers. It took them almost a week, and all of the support people said -- "just close and re-open your outlook." I think we crashed the checkdns.net site, but that's were you go to see the DNS status of your websites, email and globat.
