I LOVED them for what you got and what it cost. But those negative option upgrades (they charged you unless you said no) and then trying to get people to pay for 3 or 5 years out seemed really rotten. They kept upping what you got for your money, kept trying to get you to pay more or pay for more years. What do you think? Just took off with the cash? I've been calling as well - phones busy (Tom Cox/Director of Customer Service/(877) 245-6228/ (323) 874-9000). My sites are down, their main site is down. Doesn't look good. Assuming they are crooks and gone forever, where do we go now? I want another 10+ site / 1000 MB host for one price/one management page for a super cheap price - No more than $75/year, less if possible. I had Neureal.com for a few years, and for a while had UNLIMITED domains on one account. But they were TERRIBLE with email (I had 50+ sites there at one time but they were scummy about referral credits and lost about 20% of the email but denied it even when I had dozens of messages I could prove were lost - I sent them and never got them!), TERRIBLE customer support. I've used http://www.3shost.com/linux.html for years without trouble. LOVE them but unless something has changed recently they don't offer multiple domains on the same package w/o extra cost. Other suggestions?
Just got off the phone w/ tech support. Supposedly it is a "hardware failure in the data center". I asked about redundancy, fail-over measures etc. He had no clue. Said email should be back in 3 hours and webs in 5 hours. And yes, support is in the Philippines so they only know what they get fed which obviously is squat if they have no idea what hardware failed.
Oh hi guys, does anyone want to be my friend? add me on MSN king<a.t.>correctus<.>com and we can have a talk anytime! PS on a serious note, I have called some of my contacts that happen to know the Globat situation a bit better since they work in there, and they have informed me that it is due to some very unexpected reasons and therefore people should stop panicking and instead be with Globat in these moments of trouble. Thats all they said IT
OK, I'm too lazy to do anything right away anyway so I'll give it a day or so. I don't have any business sites with them so it's hardly critical. But I'd still like suggestions on a new host since if they aren't up tomorrow, I'm movin' on... Thanks.
I called Globat tech support and specifically asked their location: it's the Philippines. This makes a significant difference to Americans attempting to obtain competent support from Globat. The behavior of Globat, as reported here by other posters, are valid criticisms, and appropriate for this thread. If Globat's service is deteriorating, as it seems that it is, and if their billing behavior is unethical, as it seems to be, we all need to know about it. This down time is totally unjustified. It’s not “badmouthingâ€, it’s objective criticism.
Hey Lulu, Before getting down on me...go to http://www.who.is/whois-net/ip-address/gpnp.net/ and you will see the same thing I saw. I have been a Globat customer for years and have even pushed their services. However, this is inexcusable that they can't even send out a batch letter to their customers to let us know what the heck is going on and what the plans are.
my mail client just connected for the first time this morning... looks like things are starting to come back. Still can't connect to my website, but it shows progress. --nw
Oh great, it wasn't like I needed e-mail for the next three hours anyway. "Be with Globat during these moments of trouble?" Huh?? This is my Internet hosting provider, not my family member. I really don't care what problems they are having, I just want my damn data back up online.
I just got a call from Globat in response to my fax. They are having a network problem and are working on it right now (I know, that's not exactly a news flash.) The lady from Globat said that she would call me back when they have an update. Hang in there guys.
Yes downtime can happen at times without notice. Accidents happen. But sounds like everyone here has had it happen to them more then once. And nothing is ever really said about it to those affected. I often feel like I can't go without checking my email more then a couple of days because I may find I've paid money to globat without knowing it. You could always fight it afterwards and probably get your money back, but should you have to?
I'm way more ok with downtime, than I am with a company who takes the money and runs. My email is back up too... I'm not so worried now.
I've a client that uses lunarpages, I'd go with bluehost or apollo, i called their customer service and they seem very knowledgeable in technical stuff, oh and they'r very cost-effecient.
