Very true it is getting quite simple, more simple than windows in a way. Less step by step but more of just one bluntly obvious step.

As someone who has worked with both, heres my opinion.
    vista:
They moved around all the menus, over tightened security, and added un needed features. The only thing Vista has over linux is support.
    Linux:
it does everything you want it to. Its opensource, so if you dont like it, you fix it. There are 100s of linux distrobutions, so you are bound to find one you like.

Umm, You can't even compare the two. They are made for completely different things.

If your a developer, not interested in gaming go with Linux (Gentoo).
If your a gamer go with Vista.
If your doing purely office work and have a slow-spec PC go with linux (open-office), if you have a high-spec PC and want to do office work go with Vista.

But, you cannot say one is better than the other because they are made for completely different things.

If you want to play games... buy a PS2

If you want to get work done... go with Linux. While windows users are busy defragging and scanning for viri... *nix users continue working.

Also, you can double click RPMs with Mandriva to install programs, and you can install this on an empty harddrive --- with all your favorite office and graphics apps --- and have it up and running in 10 minutes. Try that with windows. You won't even be at its first reboot with windows in that amount of time ;)

If you don't like our ride... then how about stepping out of our "Yugo". You do realize DP is running on Linux... and that Windows could not handle a load such as produced by DP ;)

PS: I would say its the other way around... windows was mass produced cheaply for the sheep... whereas Linux is finely tuned such as the BMW.

Do you have any idea the resources DP uses? Get it to do this good on an equivalent spec windows server.

"Way back when" I had a website that...essentially was a precursor to youtube (yes, to this day, my wife kicks my ass for selling it), I ran it on a windows server, videos and all (remember, there was no youtube yet) and never really had problems..heck, I wasn't even hacked, despite my 1.5 terabytes a week bandwidth.

Say what you will, but you words cannot disprove my experience. Microsoft rules.

The majority of high volume sites runs on Linux or Unix type OS.
google, yahoo, digg, youtube, imageshack, amazon, photobucket, AOL, wikipedia and the list goes on.

    Your a joke.

You've obviously never used Linux, nor know how hosting works.

That's due to Digital Point's large member base outgrowing it's current server (it requires more and more resources, RAM and CPU). Not due to the operating system (highly unlikely). However, it most probably would be a lot slower on a Windows operating system.

    Just like Windows :).

Both Windows and Linux have their advantages and disadvantages of using the OS, but you cannot say Linux is a joke when more than 90% of the web is run off some form of UNIX or UNIX-like operating system.

I have prevous experience with Linux and that's the reason to choose Ubuntu. But the choice of the average Internet surfer will be Windows.
