    Hey,

I am running a diabetes website and I am not really sure where I could go to promote it as I have not really worked with this sort of niche before so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

I would go for directory health niche, general directories under the health banner, health blogs that direction. Also since it is a niche site try writing articles and submit them to the top article sites to gain cred.

Do a search for Diabetes Blogs, you could leave some comments with links back to your blog if they are dofollow blogs.

There are plenty of health forums where you can let people know about your website.
    This one for example:

diabetes is a problem that many people face. In fact, I'd bet most people know someone with it...

While what ever you do keep in mind that relevant links are the key to success, but with a topic like that, almost any link with traffic has the potential for conversion, or at least interest.

Signature links in almost any forum may raise awareness and product recognition. Blog posts on many of the general interest blogs may also help out.

The more specialized you get away from your niche though, the less effect it'll have though...at least traffic wise. A general topic forum/blog/link is better then say one here at a webmaster forum or an automotive site... but as I said, even those can help you, as it is a problem that effects MANY individuals.

I would think it would be pretty easy to write a series of articles, or get them outsourced and start distributing them to various article directories. That would be a good start.

Try also places like Yahoo answers, if you get on a popular question and get the picked answer, you can get tons of traffic.

Because it is a specialist area I would probably create some articles and submit them to article directories. This
will create interest in your site and provide links if you add a link at the bottom.

Or, just submitting to directories. There are dozens of directory lists that contain hundreds of directories. It is the quickest way to get backlinks unless you hire a directory submitting service which is even quicker, and IMO well worh the cost in the time that you save.

+1 for writing articles and submitting them to article directories. Get 'em distributed.
