Had LASIK Last Week

I had LASIK surgery on Friday, so this is the 4th day after. So far, I'm a little disappointed with the results. At my follow up appointment the next day, they said I was at 20/35 (I was 20/400 before), but I'm having some difficulties, and it sure doesn't seem like I'm seeing 20/35.

I can definately see better that I could before without correction, but my vision was better before with my contacts. I have problems reading (especially the computer screen, which sucks since most of my waking hours are spent on the computer), at night, I get a halo effect from lights. I see double (especially lit signs).

I feel like a can see at long distances very well, but the close and mid-range stuff I have a problem with. Even though I've read that recovery takes months, I'm getting nervous that this is as good as my vision is going to get. I have another follow up appointment this Friday, so I'm waiting to see what they say.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else on this forum has had lasik, and what your experience was.

Lasik is laser operation on your eyes for better view. I never try it yet, let us know about the result from your next appointment.

i'm like 10.5+ with my correction lens and thought of LASIK too. again the idea was held up due to the halo effect that I heard of. However with the new technologies I seldom heard of the halo effect these days. Where did you held your operations at?

It was actually a highly recommended eye surgery center here in Colorado, USA.
I keep hearing that this is normal, and I just need to be patient while my eyes heal, but it's difficult.

btw, if the result's not ideal, esp the halo effect, is coz the correction cut's radius isn't large enough to cover your pupil during night vision. it can be solved with another LASIK operation with a larger correction radius. Maybe u might get it for free since it's their error in measurement. who knows? :)

Was it painful? And what kind of lasers do they use? Is it the ones that turns metal into liquid? *Gasps*

older woman in her 50's she is experiencing the halo effect, its been 4 yrs since she had it done, regrets doing it. I myself wanted to get it done but for me it has been out long enough (20yrs works for me) last thing I want is to get it done & some little white guy comes up to the podium on TV an says " Sorry to announce Laslik cause X amount of damage to your eye or whatever" Just like beast implants, cigarette's & now Botox (which should have been a no-brainer).

Or better yet the doctor's wife didn't give him any head the night before so he comes in with a attitude & hits the wrong button causing a mistake.

IMO the procedure is too new to determine if there are any long term side effect. I personally will not do it and i would not recommend other to do it.

Suicide rate among people that had failed laslik is very high. Think about, it is your eye. Once you did it, there is no return

Exactly I rather pay the cost for a GREAT pair of glasses which I did, then put my eyes at risk. Worse case disposable contacts

Where did you get this info? Simply not true.

You really do need to be patient. Sometimes enhancement has to be done but usually they wait a couple of months. I have known many people (I work for an optometrist) who were so sad with their outcome a week or so out but a month or so afterward they were very happy.

As far as your computer screen goes. If you are in your 40's or older there is a great chance that you may have to wear reading/computer glasses to see clearly. That should've been explained to you in depth prior to surgery.

From 20/400 to 20/30......even if you have to wear some correction for night driving at least now you see well enough to get out of your house in case of fire or go to the bathroom at night without having to fumble for glasses.

Just give it time....it will get better. Let us know how it goes:)

    Folks,
Some of the posts really scared me - i can't look into computers for next few months ? (In some worst cases)

I earn my living by working with a computer - how am i going to pay off $4000 for the LASIK and feed my family if that's the case ?

Please be frank - is it really bad doing LASIK ? The surgeon and the clinic said the good things and that i'm a ideal candidate etc... etc... My right eye is -6.5 and left is -5.5 and i'm wearing glasses for last 24 years.. I tried contacts when i was 18 but i wasn't comfortable using that and maintaining etc.. etc...

I had LASIK done. You'll be alright. It takes up to a year to heal but you'll start seeing great results in after a month or so. it's a very safe procedure and most complications are resolved by itself or by retreating the eye with an enhancement. my site is LASIK Eye Surgery, theres a lot of good info there, so be sure to check it out. I too was nervous initially as my vision was somewhat blurry, but I'm very satisfied with the procedure and now have perfect vision.

My father and my aunt both had lasik. Sometimes when you have it done your eyes can heal at slightly different rates (as was my dads case) leaving to blurry vision. Once the two eyes healed enough to be at the same position (about two-three weeks) it was alot better. Be patient and ask your doctor what you can do to see the screen better int he mean time

I nearly had LASIK before but it was not covered by my health care provider. It's too expensive to use my own money.

I didn't undergo lasik but I heard that it is one of the best options available with almost no side effect and fast recovery

Alot of it depends on your age. If you have your vision corrected to Plano and you are no longer nearsighted and are over the age of 40 you will need reading/computer glasses either now or in the next couple of years. LASIK does not correct presbyopia (the condition that we all will get sometime after 40 that doesn't allow us to do near tasks without correction.)
