Poor CPM $0.10 - how to improve?

    268,102 page impressions.
    72 clicks.
    $19.39.

    That is for February.

$19 isn't bad but I thought given the amount of page impressions I'd end up with little more! How can I improve this?

Your CPM isn't the problem, it's your horrible CTR.

Probably not defines good keywords and site is not properly optimized.
Can you tell us, what your website is all about. I have read today on DP some guy, earned more than 400 USD with only 20.000 page impression and he was in niche competition with keyword "wholesale".

My site is a football forum for the team I support, it gets quite a lot of traffic.

Is is possible for me to provide a link to it and you can tell me how to optimize it correctly?

Try changing the colors of the ads so that they stand out more and if possible place an add unit below the first post on each page.

Also experiment with another publisher like adbrite to see if you have better luck.

    CTR is a big problem

As 72 clicks for 19$ is very good

    Try optimizing the ad placement

Shouldn't be giving this advice as i am a cov city fan...but hey here goes

    * agree with other posters ctr is your problem - cpm is not to bad (ads look fairly relevant to your site)

    * forum ctr is notoriously low, check this link, been mentioned a few times lots of good advice

    http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=forum+ctr+site:digitalpoint.com&btnG=Google+Search&meta=

    * if in doubt copy something successful - dp forum ad placements

ad block above the fold top right - that changes colour on each refresh
ad blocks in between posts - blog style

thats it, and i'l stop being nice now... hope you lose on Saturday! :)

I didn't even notice that ad. Go for some CPM stuff.

Also, try ads after the first post in each thread.

why do you have both the page background and the ad title color in blue? how do you expect anyone to notice it?

the single most important line in any text ad is the title... the advertiser writes compelling text specifically for that line, yet many noobs out here ignore the color of that text.

the idea to put ads between posts is a good one.

The CTR is extremely low. You should change your placement, colors, etc.

I would take the ad border off, it screams ad. Make the text and url black and leave the title white. Or something similar. Also like someone said put ads somewhere after a actual post. Keep in mind that most of the time 336x180 and 300x250 ads have the best ctr.

Only those clicks for all that impressions? You are loosing a lot of money friend!

Place 1 small banner at the top of the page before the title, place a wide sky scrapper in the midle of the page on the right, and one square on the bottom of the page. That´s what I see in almost all big sites.

Another option is placing Voxant News. They pay 1$ CPM per flash player embeded and you can put up to 3 without them reviewing your site. More than 4 players will earn you more but you might be asked to remove some. Visit my site and see how I use that. It´s www.xredburn.com.

I suggest too you use Tribal Fusion. They are a CPM network. They have one of the best CPM on the market. Imagine you get a low CPM of 3$ With 200k impressions you make 900$. A little more than what you are making right now!

    Thanks for all your tips.

I've removed the border and changed the colours a little.

I want to place an ad after each post in a topic but can't find a way yet.

How do I get it to change colour on each refresh?

the white text looks blown-out against the blue background, and the ad title line doesn't stand out because it's the same color as the body of the text... not a good combo.

Try putting a border around the ads and changing the background to make them stand at more.

    --------------------------

Easy.... when you are setting up your adsense block you will see a "colors" section (this is where you normally change the ad format colours etc) - scroll down to the end of the selection box - you will see "multiple palettes" - "use multiple palettes" - select this and i think you can add 4 different colour schemes

adsense then selects a random colour scheme (from the 4 you created) on each refresh!

to create ad units in between posts you will need to code this yourself or hire a coder to do it for you - you may be able to find some info on this using include functions etc - this is where you will earn most of your dollar - so well worth doing! - most successful forums & blogs use this trick
