Hello I am still learning SEO and want to ask you guys a question. I apologize if it has been already. Does time spent by visitors on any page of website helps to boost PR? or it doesn't matter? Thanks in advance for your time Best Regards. digital duke
Plainly speaking NO. Look at it from this POV. If your site manages to make the visitor stay for a longer time than normal, then chances are that he finds something interesting in it . Consequently, he may link to it from his site, and that could start a chain effect. With more backlinks coming your way, you get a boost in PR
As gr8liverpoolfan, no. Only links pointing back to your individual pages will increase your page's PageRank score. Also note that I said page, not site. PageRank is calculated on a per-page basis, not a per-site basis.
I read somewhere a week or two ago that there's been speculation, and yes, it may only be speculation... that Google may start to take visitor behaviour into account... It may have been a thread on here; I really don't remember. I think the theory was that if visitors spent longer on a page, that page had been more 'valuable' to that visitor. Also mentioned was that G is now able to monitor visitor behaviour much more now because of the widespread use of its tools. Anybody else heard anything like this?
That is easy to answer, no. Not only would this open the doorway for "massive" abuse, it would be impossible to get relevant data over the hundreds of millions of people who use the web. There is not accurate way to track that data.
Yes, that is most definitely correct. I think I remember where I read about this - I seem to remember them having a few good points. I'll look it up again...
There are no "good points", this idea would have to be a completely different ranking system than Pagerank, and in theory it is almost like Alexa minus the visiting time, and we all seen how respected Alexa "spyware" is.
The word "domain" and "age" aren't even in the thread title or thread orignal post, but nice try never the less.
Ha ha ) Man don't be so confused PR is just a number nothing more and it;'s based on BACKLINKS SEO means rankings in SE not PR Regards
Part of the patent Yahoo recently filed includes talk about how google's algo can be improved upon by judging user behavior, which I assume would include how long people stay on the site, bounce rate etc. As far as I am aware, it is only in the talking phase, and I hope it stays there. The minute a company starts factoring in user behavior, people will immediately begin trying to game the system.
In a sense your right, but you forget the simple fact that Pagerank "is" a factor in Google search aglorthim and in the search results. What people mis-understand is it's not YOUR pagerank that is the factor, it's the pagerank (and relevancy + quality) of your backlinks to a specific web page. Really, what people need to say is your web pages Pagerank isn't a factor but your inbound links are, because most of the time Pagerank is achieved by having rich unique content with backlinks from trust sites. But amazing, in return these backlinks would give a higher Pagerank. Go figure "End visible pagerank in 2008!"
