I just check my RSS reader. I noticed a familiar site name and it happened to be in the form of a reveiewme review by John Chow. Back in Spetember John Chow reviewed my Zorg Links Bidding Directory. I got pretty good comments as at the time the directory was doing well and the concept was still fairly unheard of. A few days later, a review of Alive Blog Directory was posted on JohnChow.com and got slated quite a bit, as the bloggers were not interesting in paying for links on a PR0 directory. (I think they prefer to spam high PR blogs for free). Today, Steve owner of idk.in which was created by Smub had his review published. It seems they are tired of the paid web directory scene and the directory itself did not get many good comments. However Steve also has some SEO tools which Johns reviewer, Michael, took a likening to. What would you do to answer the critics? The good thing for idk.in is the fact that they are going to get a shed load of traffic. Yeah I would know, my traffic was 90% higher the day of the review. I expect him to generate a few sales from it took. Good luck to Steve
since no one wants to take a stab at this one i will. From the sound of Michael i think he is a fan of niche directories when he mentioned all the categories are there. From the comments i see that alot of people are not in favor of paid directories. I dont think any general directory owner could do anything ... all they have to do is keep doing what they are doing.
Hello... Well let me ask this.... Did you expect he was going to say its the next best thing to the invention of chopsticks? lol He gave what you paid for... a review of his personal thoughts toward the site in question Nobody ever said a review had to be great every time and most affiliate sites arent accepted in paid or for that matter free directories so what did you expect from an affiliate marketer I like IDK and the option it offers and wouldn't lose sleep over anyones reviews... thx malcolm
You're right. He was positive about the unique features that IDK has, the tools. Other than that its just another paid web directory. I think it just shows how being unique can pay off. I wonder what they'd say if BOTW wanted a review!? A niche directory is fine, but unless it was within the webmaster/tech niche I don't think it would be appropriate on JohnChow.com.
ummm your kidding right? Dude he an affiliate or cant you tell by the ads on his site... "Make Money Now" - "Get Rich Today" "Buy My E-books" In other words the audience that go to his site aren't interested in directory stuff but mainly in affiliate material and why he gets so much from his ad clicks as they are targeted for "affiliated programs"... Its the same thing as you trying to advertise on MySpace which is orientated for the high school kids... sure you might get a few clicks from some curious teenagers but not many interested in your web directory or what it has to offer as its not what they want to see and simply not interested in its purpose, functions, ect ect and could care less... thx malcolm
Yes, he uses affiliate banners on the site to make money. If you check his posts every day, he mainly talks about making money with blogging, becoming a better blogger etc. He doesn't post much on landing pages, clickbank, PPC, article marketing and other affiliate related activity.
Ok then sorry if i got it wrong... I always thought he was the king of affiliate marketing not the king of making money with bloggers... My point was just that his general audience could care less about directories laterz malcolm
Its not that they dont care about directories. Both bloggers and affiliate marketers are keen on SEO, they just don't see why idk.in is special when they can submit to the yahoo directory. They think paid directory submission is not needed and is pointless. My point, is that his readers are not educated, rather than not bothered. Hows that?
lol evidently im not a blogger otherwise i would have known better ok now i get it... FREE is where its at cheers malcolm
Many of the folks in the "make money online" crowd do not want to pay for the efforts of others. They want free links, slave pricing for services and free e-books to sell. After all they want to make money. Spending it to get there appears to be against their religion. Malcolm, I guess you're just lucky you haven't had to deal with any of them yet.
Serg, this is the part where I act confused, scratch my head and ask you to explain yourself . No, this is not me spamming as I haven't posted a URL to my own site. Theres nothing wrong with it. I am not the kind of guy to paste content and create a duplicate. I link to the source and only show a snippet...
lol .. now this is a quality conversation going on here. And i see many of the thank you people are not here because A) they don't understand the topic, and/or B) they just don't know what to say. I think what the issue over there is ... It is not special. It is just ANOTHER GENERAL PAID DIRECTORY. Perhaps what they want is niche directories, contextual links for SEO. Who knows.
Good point who knows about Coca Cola ...........lousy drink .........sells because its advertised all over the world McDonalds ..........junk food............sells because its advertised all over the world idk.in ............who cares what others think (i think its a top directory)....................................sells because its advertised all over the world. Get with it guys its called marketing! And marketing will sell 'sand to arabs' The internet primarily succeeds by marketing & traffic
I will agree with that... and mr chow does very well with his site in terms of traffic as well as im sure the adverts that convert to $$ If i remember correctly google slammed his site a few months back and rather then lose traffic he actually gained more and is one of the few that can actually say... I dont rely on them for anything but thx none the less...kudos thx malcolm
I have always taken reviews of web directories from John Chow with a grain of salt. I still haven't forgotten about that hilarious review they gave about Alive Directory.....
I think the review was silly and unprofessional. I would have expected a bit more than tons of untargeted traffic for $450. I also think that guy, Chow's doggy dog, never saw a directory admin panel in his life and has no clue how much time and money are involved in building a quality web directory. - plus his general SEO knowledge makes me send him back to the "SEO for newbies" books.
Whilst I would like to agree with you, Dan, we have to look at the bigger picture. This guy doesn't visit the DP forums, never mind the directories forum. He can submit to 5000 free directories to get backlinks, so he will be wondering why bother waste his pocket change on idk. What does idk offer that BOTW/Yahoo/Business/Aviva/Zyas offer? Whats different about the directory? Its just another general paid directory like smub said. It clearly doesn't appear that he likes the site as a marketing method, let alone as somewhere to browse for an average internet surfer. People do not realise that directory submission is on-going. You don't just submit to one paid directory and then stop, you submit to many across the lifetime of your SEO campaign. These guys obviosuly don't realise that you buy at many shops, he doesn't like IDK as he only wants to shop at one shop, and doesn't see why he should start shopping at IDK.
