First MS, now Murdoch... I don't know which is scarier! From BBC: Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation is reportedly in talks with Yahoo about a possible deal that would stave off an approach from Microsoft. The Wall Street Journal said that News Corp was eyeing a move that would see MySpace and other of Murdoch's web interests merge with Yahoo. Yahoo would give News Corp 20% of its shares under the alleged deal, allowing it to remain independent. Microsoft has offered to buy Yahoo for more than $40bn (£20.5bn). However Yahoo has dismissed the move as undervaluing its brand, audience, investments in advertising platforms and future growth prospects, free cash flow and earnings potential. Google challenge In a letter outlining why it had spurned the offer, Yahoo chief executive Jerry Yang said that the firm was in a position to take advantage of "a huge market opportunity". "Today, Yahoo is a faster-moving, better-organized, more nimble company than it was just a few months ago," Mr Yang said. "We have redeployed our resources to drive Yahoo's key strategic priorities taking important steps to streamline our organisation and close down or scale back businesses that don't support these critical growth initiatives." Microsoft wants to merge with Yahoo to increase its online presence and enable it to better compete with industry leader Google. It has said that Yahoo rejecting its offer, worth $31 a share, 62% above the level at which Yahoo stocks were trading when the offer was made on 1 February, was "unfortunate". News Corp's media interests include Dow Jones - which publishes the Wall Street Journal - Fox News, BSkyB, The Sun and The Times as well as MySpace.
It isn't surprising, but it does make things interesting for sure. News Corp Negotiating to Trade Myspace for Yahoo Stake
Personally I think that Yahoo are mental for rejecting the Microsoft bid. The shareholders will probably be most unhappy.
I'm not surprised Microsoft wants to join with Yahoo!... Everyone wants to beat Google, but I doubt it's every going to happen. Yahoo! and Microsoft both filled up their sites with content while Google is dedicated to searching technologies. Of course they're going to be the best in terms of a search engine. Yahoo! and Microsoft have more things to offer. Still... I would rather own Google than any other website.
Yep, it seems to falling apart.... with Facebook not far behind. Who's going to spot the next big thing??
i personally dont like murdoch and news corp seems they just buy stuff and in a few years they turn to shit like myspace no one will ever offer the same amount for yahoo m$ did again they should have just taken it
Someone sure as hell needs to take over myspace, build a better framework, wipe out all the profiles, and just about start over.
That would completely destroy MySpace if they wiped everyones profiles, but I have to admit some profile are really annoying. I don't know why MySpace don't have their own in built editors and code so people can have less buggier and annoying profiles.
I believe, that MS should try to get a stake in AOL, AOL is demerging from News Corp now, & it would make sense if MSN, Yahoo & AOL merges into one big entity, even Google would be scared to hell then. Google is already scared with the possibility of an MS-Yahoo combination, if it becomes MS-Yahoo-AOL, Google is going to pee in its pants.
it's very funny, first microsoft makes an offer an then myspace, I think Google will come with a big offer^^
Now Yahoo's shareholders are suing Yahoo for not taking the deal. Yahoo Gets Sued for Not Selling to Microsoft?
In my opinion newscorp is just used to increase the bid price by yahoo and Microsoft will get this deal near $35. Yahoo rejected the deal with comment undervaluation
Yahoo would have only hurt Microsoft in my opinion. They only wanted to buy them to have a slight chance at challenging Google.
