Saddam was 69 when he was executed and could of outlasted a couple of more US Presidents. Saddam had two sons that were more brutal than him --Uday and Qusay. They would have taken charge of Iraq and lasted another 50 years. Assad is still going strong in Syria and Syria is a cesspool of terrorism.

Saddam's regime was based on both tribal and family ties and would a US invasion would have been difficult to remove. After Gulf War I, Saddam had no problem putting down the Shia insurgency.

The sanctions were not working and Saddam was actively involved in sanction busting. Both France and Russia members of the UN Security Council were on the take. Many countries were looking for some quick cash and it was only a matter of time before the sanctions were circumvented.

Some members of the German government were getting some love form Saddam as well and that explains why the governments of Germany, France and Russia were real upset that the US cut off their gravy train.

France and Russia have no problems using military force. The Russians are fighting several wars in Sothern Russia and have their forces deployed all over the place in the former Soviet Union.

The French have forces everywhere. There are sizeable French deployment in Chad and Ivory Coast, The French also employ a permenant band of mercenaries called the French Foreign Legion.

That would be dangerous for USA, Iran is an active proponent of not using USD for trading of oil. This will certainly undermine the USD.

But this is economics, whether it will lead to war is another thing.

Your forgetting that saddam had no ties to al qaida , no wmd's and he was also accusing us of putting cia plants in there. Im not saying his accusations were false or true but after we go into iraq and the american people found out the truth about the wmd's and the rest it just appeared to us as another gulf of tonkin incident. While u trust this flase as gospel truth i prefer to go into it with an open unbiased mind. Remember how wew erent told the truth about mossadegh for another 30 years after we helped take out his government.

Unbiased citizens are capable to critisizing as well as giving praise to our government? I give praise for defeating hitler in ww2, but like ron paul said we havent won a war since then and we havent declared war like its supposed to be delared . Now i know many of the neocons are going to prancy foot around the truth with technicalities on words but RP said to go to war we need to have solid evidence. The american people were asked to go on faith and look where it lead us. Like i said in a few years when we are still in iraq the american people will find out the lower levels of violence wasnt due to the surge but to the secret deals with iran behind closed doors.

We have been helping saddam ever since he got into power. We got our oil deals and looked the other way when he was gassing kurds. I guess you dont wanna talk about that part.

Well, the government has been cutting "stimulus" deals with the (sic) insurgents.

80,000 men have been getting $10 a day not to fight the US. That is $800k per day. Some radio pundits were joking that the Iraqis need to get lobbyists, because they should be making a lot more considering the war's cost, and how good they have made the surge look.

Btw, looks like the surge is over anyways...

    THE MIGHTY GOOGLE HATH SPOKEN!

Lemme' put back in a thought. There is no legitimate reason until they make a reason - such as a direct attack on us militarily. Unfortunately - Iraq never did that, and the congress never declared war.

Henceforth I declare the United States Government as being Broken. Until Congress acts according to the constitution, it will remain derelict.

In 1973 Congress passed the wars Power Resolution which requires the president to obtain either a declaration of war or a resolution authorizing the use of force from congress.

In 2002 congress passed the bill for "Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution"

One can also make the argument that Iraq never full complied with the UN resolutions for disarmament therefore the last war is an extension of the Gulf War of 1991

Hence you can stop being derelict.
