Can anyone suggest a good CAPTCHA solution to prevent spam. I need a simple, easy to implement solution to suit MS Frontpage websites. We may also be looking for someone to install the solution for us so feel free to pm me with a price. AussieT
I don't know of any good captcha codes, but if you're still using frontpage I strongly recommend you please use something else right away, Frontpage writes non-standard code and is weak. Netscape composer became mozilla composer, which became NVU which is now Kompozer (kompozer(dot)net) and it's free. I'd recommend you upgrade to that and continue your progress from there...
I don't think CAPTCHAs can be made in frontpage. Usually you'll use some sort of server side php script. Maybe there is an equivalent.
The later versions of Frontpage supported .Net (if memory is correct) in which case there are a few free Captcha components - have a look at http://www.codeproject.com/KB/custom-controls/CaptchaControl.aspx
Thanks everyone I have put the job on rentacoder. If anyone is interested Pm we price and brief outline of your solution.
hehe I wouldn't touch a windows server with a 30-foot pole. Windows average uptime: 30 days Linux average uptime: 300 days BSD average uptime: 500 days Linux and BSD are both free and so is the software for them....why the h3ll wouldn't you use them people!
Usual rubbish spounting hu? Provide reputable source for the stats? The servers maintained in the London Docklands Data Centre are a mixture of Windows and Linux (cant remember how many thousands of servers they have there) the rolling 12 month uptime for windows servers was 99.95% and linux 99.85% when I checked yesterday. Windows 2003 Server Web Edition is only a couple of hundred dollars, really shouldnt be a problem for any business to afford it, if it is you have much bigger issues on your hands than the up time of your servers
Hi If you are happy with client-side validation just to prevent webbots from submitting garbage in the form, look here for a downloadable Captcha with instructions: http://www.archreality.com/jcap/index.shtml and then look at http://www.caymandrama.org.ky/skillsregister.htm (Use View source) where I have commented the steps. I created a directory _jcap in my web project and placed the needed files in there. I placed the image files in _jcap/cimg and amended the pointer in jcap.js to point to it. Many thanks to Jonathan Feaster of Archreality Design (http://www.archreality.com/) for supplying something which after all of these years Microsoft should have included as a standard feature of Frontpage. -- Paul de Freitas Megasol Technologies Banking without Borders(tm)
