I have to second that with pipes, he gave me a simular lecture via p.m and he gained my respect for it. People like to think they can dictate what's being said on here and don't like it if things don't always go their way. Me, I agree with pipes, if you don't like something that bad then don't read it, you can usually tell if it's a nonsense thread by the OP title.

The problem here is that the one's who complain are often the one's who never post anything worthwhile themselves or if they do and it get's challenged they go and throw their toys out of the pram, there's just no pleasing all of the people all of the time.

lol JamieG it is funny how you can come in and make your judgement about people who are complaining have never contributed. If you notice you have been here for only lets see a few days as i can call this because your joining date is Feb 2008. There are people here who have seen this community from start or from its early stages and turning into a mess what it is.

Pipes: there use to be quality discussion about directories here that once used to go on not useless threads like this. Tell me one good this thread does? I like to thank you ... ok you are welcome and what.......?

If you see that people aren't leaving just because they must have some reasoning. Most important reason is that people who were use to see quality discussion going on here come here to read the same as they use to see, but the crap they find is useless like this one. Many people get tired of just opening up the threads and then find it completely useless. Now this is not about people not liking my views because unlike many here i know when you put out your view in public there is always going to be more than one way it can be viewed, and i am not saying that you are wrong in thinking that contributing and helping others is a nice deed and we should all work together. I am saying that the useless threads like these needs to be moderated at a higher rate and deleted as soon as it can to keep the quality of this forum high otherwise it just turns into one of those spammy large forums which is abandoned by the owners as they already know it is going to get traffic no matter what. Income will stay steady no matter what. So why bother.

Smub, yeah i agree, before i was a directory owner early last year i remember those types of threads, and of course they will have went back much further than that, think i first started hanging around here more in march or april.

Nobody is forced to visit the forum though, sometimes theres decent stuff to be found, you just got to sort through the junk, cant be an easy job for the mods here though, i dont know how many mods exist, but theres a lot of active people, only they can decide if a thread should be trashed, moved or whatever.

Again though who sets the standards, its like suggesting before someone posts that they run it past a few of you guys for approval, you give the nod and the guy can post it, its just not practical, you want the freedom to roam here with no stress yet you want the place so heavily moderated that it would stifle it.

Its not about what is best for one or a few, its about what is best for the whole community, this will never be agreed upon though, so yes, another discussion about nothing really :) but, well, i dunno...

In the past you guys maybe didn't get challenged so much, only yourselves will know, now you have people messing with you so naturally it will get some upset, but that happens, people were probably observed here for some time, just checking you all out, seeing how you work and operate on the forum.

As far as im aware, theres coders here, designers etc, so why are you not designing? coding? you are? then whats the problem?

What do you need to be happy here? sharing ideas maybe, so 200 people all put the same thing on their directory, thats not a good idea, or someone makes an announcement and every single person says bravo, great job, when in reality some will be thinking the opposite but only echoing the thread to keep in with everyone or not to offend.

I think theres just more honesty now, and because in the past the same people shared congratulations with each other that its a little difficult to swallow when people say actually i dont agree with you.

I have encountered bigots over the last few months and one or two people showing mild narcissistic tendencies, some people you cant even agree to disagree on something with as their up their own backside so much that they wont give up till they have hammered a message into your skull, but even after all of that the forum is still here, who chooses to be here or not really wont matter to the majority.

    Added Text:
Think of it this way, that the forum isn't here for the people that left, its here for the people that still want to use it.

What are you saying? I have to be a member for a year before I make a comment? My observations or 'judgement' if you like, is that if people want to whine on about nonsense posts then do something about it such as either writing your own or ignoring the rubbish. I saw that from day one and if I'd have commented then I would have had just as much right to do so then as I will in three years time. :)

i never said you shouldn't make a comment JamieG... what i said if you notice in Pipes last post ... that there use to be good quality threads here ... which obviously you missed out on so you obviously don't know what i am talking about, but your judgements are based upon the one month that you have been a member, but had you been here since alot others were i am sure your belief would've been different.

It is just like 5 year old boys think it is horrible to date and they dont want to date and all the Eww.... and when they are 16 they want to date and much more while they date.

Because now they have experience ;)

    take care

I laughed at your reply because it's so stupid...:D
I didn't start this thread to say wise or funny things or teach people how to make money online in 2 days...i have been a SEO for over 3 years now. and my gaming site is doing so good. so i just wanted to say thanks to all these people with the dirs, that played a big part in getting my site to top of Google and Yahoo...dp is a discussion forum. if you don't like it go find someother site/s that people posts jokes and other stuff.
i posted this thread so other webmasters can say their stuff too.

True just remember that "Most" paid directories when they started where "FREE" for
a limited time then turned paid after they felt the need to do so... ;)

WoW, for a 17 year old yourself your giving out a lot of advice there smub? Noticed the anagram of your name btw. :D

I did read pipes post, he was playing at being the psychologist saying people were getting overly stressed. (I do love it when people use nice words like narcacisitic tendencies) :D Just because I've never posted here before smub, doesn't mean I haven't been following this forum for a lot longer.

My judgements are as worthy as anyone's here, I do see where your coming from with this repetative nonsense that keeps getting posted like 'which script should I use', 'which script is the best' 'what's the best mod' 'who has the best this, the best that', and this isn't conducive to a good forum, but remember, just like you, many were still very young and very naive when they first come along so maybe they don't know any better?

As you get older you'll understand to give these people the benefit of the doubt and advise them not condemn them. Lead by example even at your early age, you won't always get it right but at least you show you trying to lead the way.
