Anyone ever had an arthroscopy?

    Hi guys!

My fiance is going in to hospital tomorrow to have an arthroscopy and get his cartilage shaved away.

He tore his cartilage a few years ago playing indoor cricket and 2 months ago re-injured it and hasn't been able to straighten his leg or walk properly ever since.

It seems like everyone we speak to has also had the same problem at some stage LOL and all have different stories about the recovery time afterwards.

Some say they were in pain for months and others say they practically walked out of the hospital.

Just interested in hearing other peoples stories!

    :)

I had the surgery and could walk right when they released me (same day). It hurt for a couple of days but nothing a few tylenol and beers couldn't cure. IT wasn't that bad.

    Well thats definitely reassuring! :)

As much as I don't mind being his temporary slave, it will be great when he can get his own beers from the fridge! :p

He should be walking pretty soon. I've had a couple, my first was a full knee split, 9 years later had the arthroscopy where they shaved the back of the kneecap. The first one was 6 weeks recovery, but with the 2nd op I was out that same day. Unfortunately some joints are just continuing to wear away and go wonky :

    Wow!

That's not you is it?

All went well with the op. He's a little bit sore today but the doctor said he should be walking normally in a week and back at work in 3 weeks. :)

    Afraid so, hypermobile joints.

Glad to hear his op went fine, hope his job doesn't involve lifting /kneeling a lot. :)

I've had both of my knees "scoped". The right knee was done by an awesome sports medicine doctor in new jersey. But the one I had done here in Florida is always giving me problems from time to time.
