I've seen in the past a lot of people posting messages about making money by blogging. I was curious how does this work? Is it ad based? How is the pay calculated? Let me know if you can help! Thanks!

    Here's how it works:

    1. You make a blog - post regularly about a specific niche or about your life, or both.
    2. Promote the blog - make an RSS feed and promote your blog on the Internet.
    3. Join an ad network - Google Adsense is good for beginners. They pay you for each click your visitors click on the ads. There are many other ways to make money with your blog, but for beginners like yourself, Adsense is a solid way to start making money.

What's the average monthly revenue from a typical blogger? I know "typical blogger" can mean anything, but you know, the average person :)

I think extremehardware covered most of it. The key I guess is to make sure you're actually blogging about something you enjoy, at least to start with as it makes it a lot easier to come up with new information and posts etc. Then when you look to monetise it find something that is suited to whatever your chosen topic might be - whether that's using things like adsense or amazon etc you may find yourself having to experiment a little to find what best suits you and your blog.

Or you might decide to go a different route - many make money on their blogs by getting paid to post (reviews)- again you'll need to research that though.

There's a few different ways to go about it - you just need to find what suits you and your lifestyle - eg can you post about other products on a regular basis, do you have enough information to cover a chosen topic - are you prepared to maintain it on a regular basis, will your chosen topic get the traffic you need etc

With 500-750 uniques a day at my blog, I am making $10-15 a day from Google. As well as $2-5 a day from CPM advertising. Peanuts.

Good thing the blog is just a hobby and not a source of revenue... as least for now.

Most "typical bloggers" that I know don't make much more than low-to-mid $XX a day. Out of the hundreds of thousands of blogs, there are only a handful which are making in excess of $X,XXX a month. JohnChow.com, PerezHilton.com, etc. And trust me, it's hard to emulate them. Just make some real websites. Something creative. Blogging as a main source of Internet revenue is for lazy people.

Blogging is merely a tool... you gotta figure out giving something valuable to people. Writing solid content and helping people out - so that more of them join the ride and traffic keeps getting higher.

When you have traffic + quality people visiting, you can use many ways to generate income.

Chose niche that you can write about. Niche has to be high paying, because if it isn't you wont be earning much regardless of clicks.

Of course you have to be creative and blog needs good content to monetize it well.
