Definitly seo. Do what it takes to rank in on those search engines because over time that seems to be the best method for me at least.
I agree that seeing a visitor come to my site because of SEO gives me more joy than PPC, Social Bookmarking or any other way. I seem to get a lot of visitors through Google Images, which is also good SEO.
I could be wrong, but I think he meant getting a lot of visitors, not just a couple of hundred a day, if that, and to where a webmaster makes money.

SE traffic is solid and increases with time/growth. Most of my large(r) websites receive over 70% of traffic (in the thousands of uniques a day) from Google alone.
