Just a tip to those with Feed Count Feedburner Widgets

I see this a lot on smaller blogs - the authors proudly display their feed count via feedburners widget. This is a great idea - if you're blog is popular. However, if you only have like 7 subscribers, I really recommend you do not display your feed count. It makes it seem like your blog is not popular and could drive people away. So, hold off showing your feed count until you have at least 100 subscribers, and it might make people more attracted to your blog.

Good tip, I have blogs with about 100 subscribers and I'm still not showing the feedcount. Don't know what my ideal number is but it is more than 100, probably 200 - 250, I don't know.

Yeah, you might be right about waiting until 200-250. Anything under 100 definitely dont display though

Yep i had realized this when i still had 35 readers, i just removed the feed count button, and just decided to have the subscription box, and when i have more than 100 readers, then i would place it back :)

I'm still mystified about getting ANY subscribers. None of my blogs have any, as far as I can tell. I've never subscribed to a blog; what drives people to do so? I get some visitors, but no signups to the RSS feed...

I'm still working on increasing the number of subscriber for my blog. But from what I read, the reason people subscribe is usually because they don't want to miss any content

So generally all we need to do is to post consistently quality content

Other things to do is to
    - allow subscription for the non savvy
    - remind readers to subscribe
    - visible positioning of the RSS button
    - etc

    Just my 2 cents

i totally agree with you on the feedburner things.
it is advisable if your rss subs are above 50 then only show the feed subs. :)

The reason I’m subscribed to blogs is that I only want to read the headlines first; it saves me a lot of time. I have about 100 blogs in different niches that I “scan” and only a few that I follow daily like problogger and shoemoney.

I see the subscription as one of the most important assets of my blog, for several reasons.

    A high number will…
    - Crack up the costs for advertising on your blog.
    - If you have something to sell you have an immediate audience to sell it to.
    - You’ll have readers commitment with-out putting any effort in it.
    - It I’ll help you’re PR a bit since Google looks at the Google readers (this is unconfirmed, no one knows this for sure, except for Google).

I display mine and it only has at most ever had 8. The only reason that I display it is for my own reference. Where can I check what my stats are so that I don't have to display the feedburner counter.

You can check them at the feedburner website, just log into your account and go to "my feeds".

yep once you login, the first page that appears is the "my feeds" page where the list of feeds and no. of subscribers are shown.
So i've now decided to place the feed count button after i get 100 subscribers :)
