What matters is rankings, traffic and conversions!

My people don't even know hat PR is let alone have the Goggle toolbar installed.

I don't think it is an update so much that sites got 'grayed out' in the toolbar

How does Google know which interlinks are?

How do they justify which is paid link or not?

The bigdaddy infrastructure update made it possible for Google to detect interlinking and reciprocal links.

Paid link detection is difficult and that is why Google is on a mission concerning paid links.

I also lost my PR. But I don't see any changes on SERPs. I guess we need to keep focus on "link:" and "site:" from now on.

    Hi,

The sites with which you have exchange links are theme related or not.If they are not related to your theme, then you should remove those links from the website.

    Regards

I've been hearing this since the last big update in October, but I've got some fundamental problems with Google's logic on this..

I have a network of sports sites. We have a list of all the sites in the network in the sidebar of each site. Despite absolutely amazing backlinks from authority sites, all of the sites have PR0s.

I'm assuming we're getting penalized for interlinking, but it's not like we're trying to do anything malicious. I've since made all of those links nofollows, and I'm hoping at the next update we'll get the PR we deserve.

Search Engine Roundtable just covered this new round of Google Paid Link penalties in a post on their site yesterday. This definitely seems to be yet another attempt by Google to aggressively discount sites that continue to sell links. Make sure to check out the discussion.

As a side note, I had two clients affected by a PR reduction during the last update on January 8. After removing the suspected interlinks and placing no-follow tags on a couple of others, both sites had their PageRank restored within 28 hours of my submitted recon requests for both sites. Just remember to take this approach when submitting the recon request:

"It appears my site suffered a PageRank reduction on so and so. I believe this reduction is tied to my violation of the Google guidelines involving paid links. I accept full responsibility for the violation and have corrected the problems by doing the following (list steps). I will certainly make it a point to discontinue these practices in the future and to use the no-follow tag more aggressively when appropriate. I now believe my site is in full compliance with the Google Webmasters Guidelines and would respectfully request a manual review at this time. Please accept my sincere thanks in advance for your timely consideration of this request."

    Good luck with your sites!
