Apache 1.3.X versus Apache 2.X

    Hello:

I'm trying to figure out why most of the hosting companies tend to lean towards using apache 1.3.X as opposed to Apache 2.X?

Aren't there any benefits that 2.X provide?

    Thanks

Mod Evasive doesn't work with all versions of 2.X, so if you use it, you'd better check what version your getting before you upgrade.

Generally most host companies use apache 1.3 because most of the control panels , for example cpanel installs it automaticly and the modules for it are fully supported only by apache 1.3 not 2.x

The bigger reason was the fact that cPanel the most popular linux control panel did not support apache 2.x very well if at all. cPanel recently released a new apache build system which now makes it possible to build apache 1.3, apache 2.0 and apache 2.2 without issue. So I think you'll start seeing more hosts using Apache 2.

2.0 has wide support now..I actually use 2.2. 1.3 is VERY stable and that's why it's often used more often. The benefits of 2x is the news bells and whistles. 1.3 has some problems especially utilizing new dual core processors and high end hardware. 1.3 just isn't fast enough imho..lighttpd is even faster but 2.2 has take the lead once again in most benchmarks.
