Does domain name matter much?

Discussion in 'AdSense' started by kaethy, Feb 17, 2008.

I'm planning on launching a new site, and I'm wondering if getting a domain name with my keywords in it is important or not. If I have keywords in my content, won't that be enough for the search engines?

Domain name with keywords in it can push the rankings up a little bit in comparison to those with no keywords in the domain name, that said, it depends on the competition for the keyword also

Considering this is the "AdSense" sub-forum I'm going to answer this question geared towards AdSense. Yes, keywords in your name can "effect" your AdSense ads, it's not uncommon for someone to recevie irrelevant ads because of their domain name.

Yes, it is definitely better than not to have your keywords included in your domain, but this is not required for SEO or AdSense success.

Keywords in a domain name can help your SEO factor, but as stated it's not "required". Good point, just kinda one sided. :)

Get a domain name that reflects your site's content. In the long run, you will feel better about that name.

That being said, it is the page content that really pushes your website's value. I have a site/page which ends in the letters "DF" for dragonflies. The overall domain name has nothing to do with dragonflies or insects. This page/site was created before I realized that I should be using domain names for different topics. And that keywords should be in the URL whenever possible. This makes it easier for searchers to identify you as a site to visit.

Still the search engines have indexed me well, based upon the content, and I get a fair amount of Search Engine traffic. (Unfortunately, the payment for clicks about dragonflies is dismal! :( Live and learn, I still like the little buggers...).

Domain name matters a lot in branding, organic SEO as well as search results click through rate.

    Exact Match

If it's an exact match, then it matters a lot to rank well in Google. For example; texasinsurance.com

    Domain Name & Adsense

If you have a good keyword-rich domain name, you will also get relevant Ads being served by Adsense on your pages. I have seen domain name, directory name and file name affecting how they serve Ads.

In a nutshell, getting a good keyword-rich domain name (that is an exact match) is worth the time, money and effort it takes these days. :)

I believe on Domain names. You should have your keywords inside your domain names. It is important, because it is easy to remember.

Words in the domain name do matter when selecting a site, especially in driving the traffic and a better SERP. They are called key word rich domain name. However caution has to be exercised so that you will not end up with a long and crap domain name which is very difficult to remember. Let it be keyword rich and at the same time, short and crisp :)

The keyword in domain has some positive role in improving search engine ranking for that particular keyword.
