Blogspot or wordpress hosted site- your suggestions please

I am a teacher by profession. I plan to start a blog on teaching methods for teachers, featuring a powerful new approach that I have begun to popularize in several forums where I am a member.

I plan to monetize the blog with a mix of relevant affiliate products, and adsense, and perhaps others as well.

I know from reading the forums here that most folks are sold on WordPress as a superior program. My question stems from this- I am extremely busy in the Real World. I already have a lot of interest from many others in reading this blog, so I know it is worth doing, and I can sustain the writing topics.

WordPress is certainly impressive, and I use it in the teacher blog I am required to run from my school. I am not much of a fan of the interface with WordPress which I find counterintuitive, and much more difficult to use than it should be. Additionally, while I can see that lots of other folks are big supporters, I also see that about half the threads here devoted to WordPress feature the word "HELP!"

I know that WordPress has a lot of advantages with SEO, but am concerned that a lot of my limited time would be spent trying to keep the darned thing running.

Blogger, on the other hand, is uniformly hailed for its ease of use.

I would like some counseling and suggestions from those of you who use either or both of these.

Thanks in advance for your help and consideration.

If you're planning on making a serious website with respectable income, Wordpress outdoes Blogger in almost every way. Once you've gotten used to Wordpress it's really easy to use, it is a little hard to develop for sometimes but if you get a free theme you'll be fine.

It is always best to buy your own host and domain using wordpress platform. I am a living example, using blogspot and my while my blog is slowly gaining popularity, i am sure i will be better off with wordpress platform.

Definitely wordpress on your own domain. You may see lots of Help threads just because the people who don't need help have no reason to make a thread about it :)

Find a web host that you like that has Fantastico on it's control panel for an easy installation of wordpress and you'll be all set.

Don't be too adventurous while using Wordpress, backup frequently and you should have no problems with Wordpress.

If you have a grand blogging plan in mind, you should always opt for Wordpress which will provide you with the best functionality and options to make your blog a better reading place for your readers.

Wordpress is, in my opinion, the better option. The number of great free templates available is amazing.

If you have the option for your own domain and hosting use WordPress.

If you are asking about WordPress.com and Blogger.com -- it's a toss up. Seeing as you mentioned you'll want AdSense on your site, you'll have to use Blogger, since it is against WordPress TOS.

What? Adsense is against Wordpress TOS? Then how come I see hundreds upon hundreds of wordpress sites that have Adsense on them? And there's even a plugin for Adsense.. please can someone clarify this?

As for my opinion, even though I'm just beginning my blog and am having alot of problems, I still know it'll be better for me in the long run. Blogger in my opinion is great, but Wordpress just has so many more themes, plugins, and features that blogger doesn't have. WordPress also doesn't have that annoying "Bloggers bar" at the very top of your page, and the subdomain is just plain annoying.

Well, these are my thoughts upon this matter
P.S. please, someone, don't forget to clarify my question above ^

    Thanks,
    Jason

if that is the case then you are better off with websites, if you are not planning to take your blogging seriously, blogs needs regular updates to take a top position

I think the poster was referring to using the free domains that each site offers. A WordPress blog that is hosted on your own domain allows for Adsense, a free WP blog does not. Blogger allows Adsense even on their free blogs that they host.

What? .. I never said I don't take my blog seriously. I'm just saying I'm having alot of problems at the moment due to template issues. What makes you think I'm not taking my blog seriously? Plus I'm just starting out - so how do you expect a person JUST starting a blog to be perfect in everything? And when did I say I want to be top position? Please re-read my post again and you'll see your reply makes no sense whatsoever.

Well, Teachmaster_J - which one are you thinking of using for Wordpress? do you want the subdomain version, or the "install it by yourself on your own server" version. If you want the subdomain - then go with blogger.

    Jason
