My site: http://www.freeipodsetc.co.uk has hit a brick wall.

I don't know how to take it further?

I've done social bookmarking, directory submissions and link exchanges.
    I've done on page SEO.
    I've regularly updated it.
    Got a sitemap.

What else do I have to do to get higher in the ranks!

I want to get to the top for free ipod touch. As you can see there is under half a million page to compete with so it should be relatively easy should it not?

As you can see I'm 4th on google and 3rd on googleuk.

How can I see what other sites are doing better than me?

Keep adding content and you'll get there. I see you've only been posting in sept 2007 & Feb 2008, you still have more work to do before reaching the top.

I briefly looked at your site a few hours ago and quickly realized that you need some help! Are you sure you rank on Google.com in the 4 position on the first page for free ipod touch? I went 5 deep and couldn't find you. Create a post or page dedicatied to free ipod touch - make it the page title as well as the h1 tag - deep link to the page, promote it on social sites, write and submit a couple articles about the ipod touch (reviews?), deep link the articles back to your new page with the proper anchor text - finally, get links from different sources.

Your link profile looks like 3 websites love you about 200 links much - webbieword, blogs.mysites-advi.. and DP. Get quality back links from different sources - a lot of them. Have Fun

Fresh content (interesting and exciting to visitors) and continuous link building always help in achieving high rankings in search engines.

Alexa has nothing to do with page rank - it's just abstract indicator of webmaster traffic...

I just can't see what I'm doing differently to the top 2. I'm pretty sure they haven't written any articles. And if you look at no1 and no2 you can see that they haven't written any articles and that their site is a lot more basic than mine with a lot less content.

    Really confused here !

I thought keywords in the URL was a very small factor?

I'm not a seo expert but i think that you should change your title to Free Ipod Touch -completely FREE or something like that.

Just keep building one way links back to your website. Also as someone mentioned age plays a factor in ranking.

People that have reviewed my site have told me to shorten the homeage. What will this do to my rankings?

It's quite heavily weighted in my opinion.

First of your on-page SEO isn't as good as it could be. The main keyphrase you're targeting isn't even in the header tags.

The competition doesn't matter much on the number of results. You could have 10,000,000 pages relating to a phrase but they may be fairly average sites with average traffic.

If 5 of the websites in those results were in a whole different league and spent serious money and skill on SEO then you'd find it very difficult to get into the top 5 results, no matter how many overall results there are for that term.

Kitsune is right too. Optimize the title tag and page copy for the keyphrase you're targeting. The rest of it will come through building up relevent backlinks.

By header do you mean the very top where at present it says "Free iPhone, Free iPods, Free consoles and more!"
Ah yeah, thinking now it's obvious

How can I optimize the title any more as I have already included the keyword. Surely it'll sound more spammy? Does the position of the keyword phrase in the title play any part?
    Cheers

The <h1> and <h2> tags etc. Search it up in Google and you'll find loads of information about it

The position does play a very small part. The keyphrase will also have less weight if it's diluted with lots of other words and keywords in the title tag. Looking at it again I think your title tag is alright though.
