Brand new sites get 'sandboxed' because the search engines don't know if they are trustworthy. Getting hundreds of links to new sites is also a good way of getting sandboxed. Consistant link building within reasonable limits is a good way to get your site out of the sandbox asap.

well.. doing a lot of dir submissions using a single kw can lead to this. also as all know recently directories are getting slapped by google because of the same paid link stratagy. so, if G found our many links on directories with pr N/A, till some extent it can slap us. Also dir links are not considered good now adays as we can see lots of them are coming day by day. And those are nothing but a crap full of spam.

One of my sites have been in sandbox for over a year.

    To avoid sandbox:

    a) Do not submit your site to free directories, especially when you order something like "2000 Directory Submission" for $25
    b) Do not build a bunch of links in short period of time, get 1-2 links per day
    c) Try to get links from RELATIVE web sites only
    d) Keep adding unique content as often as possible

    Wish this help you...

This might be one of the reasons .... as last night while browsing a blog i came to know that Google is Slapping Links on Non Relevant Content Website.
Let me know if you had done some kind of directory submitting or You purchased some High PR Link which was not related to the content of your website ?

Also make sure keep on adding fresh content to your website ... like one page or two page in a week or something like that ... always update your old Articles dont let google consider your content out dated !

I also face similar problem with my site. two of my inner pages outrank my homepage for my main keyword although the inbound link is only 1/10 of my homepage inbound link. it has been almost three months now since it happened. so I guess I will just wait but keep building the backlink for my homepage. if it is because of sandbox hopefully my homepage would jump straight to at least top 20 when it is out of it. and I also lose my just recently gain PR 1 back to 0. actually I have made some major redesign on the site but the content still the same. but I don't worry that much. I just consider it as a learning process.

I agree with that, that you could get into the sandbox if you add your website into the directories in a short time.
