If you happen to having trouble bringing in enough traffic to your site, this probably would help you.

    1. Make a list of marketing techniques you like to apply. e.g. classified ads, forum posts, social networking etc etc.
    2. Make a weekly schedule for each marketing method.
    3. Perform the techniques as per schedule.

I was able to get 35000+ monthly uniques to one of my sites using this method in 10 months. Hopefully it will help some folks here.

How much time would you say you put in a week to advertise your site across the web? :)

Depends on goal actually. I personally spend about 20 hours per week on marketing.

Yeah. I agree. Put lots of time into marketing. It seems like this online business thing was gonna be easy but it turns out you have to put out a ton of work before the snowball starts getting bigger (before I start earning the big bucks)

I'd like to add step #0: set up a goal.

After that, take action like suggested.

yeah great post... good hard work gets the money rolling in (if you're commerical), i will do this now.. and stick to it! as tempting as those selling visitors things are, they are never worthwhile.. only by hard work can you control your visitors!

Spread sheet (Excel or whatnot) can certainly be a good idea, and if you put some money goals (and/or results) there... it can be motivating to see how things are progressing.

Aye... keep on going - that's the really rough part

Man, forget inspiration - just start working ;)

It's actually a really good message, although it's sometimes hard to stick to. You really do need to keep at it, it's a cliche, but slow and steady, emphasis on the steady, wins you the race.

Hey this sounds like a really smart tip. Rather than sitting down at the computer and THEN deciding what I'm going to work on today. A spreadsheet might push me to do certain marketing methods that I tend to avoid. Regimentation :p

This is a great tip. Many fail simply because they try a technique for a day or two, do not see immediate results and move to some other stuff. Consistency and perseverance are the key to success.

Three techniques worked well for me:
    - Link building by directory submissions
    - Social networking/bookmarking
    - Classified Ads (although my site is a classified ads site, I had to advertise on other classified ads sites to place the site in front of targeted audience at the beginning until I get enough visitors).

    Site is webcosmo.com

This is such great advice. Making a marketing plan and sticking to it is the optimal way of getting the results you want. As soon as you start to slack on marketing (aka don't stick to a plan) your results will slack too.
