If you need only phone to make call - it is ok. But you won't be able to install software, tweak something. Really very small freedom for users from such "open" company )
This is a BIG lie. In fact, I think the iPhone is one of the phones with most 3rd party applications. You can even install them directly from your phone (over wi-fi or EDGE). You can change anything, themes, ringtones, etc... Tell me something you can't do.

You are talking about locked phone? Heard different from the owner of the Iphone. After you unlock and hack it - it is possible to do many things, but not in the original state.
You have to "Jailbreak" it... not unlock. But there's nothing wrong with that. It's just software changes. You don't have to open the phone or anything. So I guess it doesn't affect the warranty. Plus it's really easy to do.
Actually Apple are about to launch SDK for 3rd party developers. Then 3g comes in about seven months (speculation) And then Iphone2

I just bought the 16 GB iPhone and unlocked it 2 weeks ago. Its GREAT! Actually its even better then i ever imagioned! Going to sell my Nokia N95 , it doesnt even get close to the iPhone!
