Think Microsoft-Yahoo won’t happen? Think again

Found this article pretty amusing ... for those of you who haven't read it yet, here it is:

    http://gowest.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2008/02/13/think-microsoft-yahoo-wont-happen-think-again/

Here's a paragraph that sums it up:

"What this means is that it’s likely wrong to interpret Microsoft’s lack of a higher bid so far as an unwillingness to raise its offer. Instead, think of Microsoft’s behavior as a pause, an opportunity to make Yahoo sweat — or at least get an earful from its own shareholders. Of course Microsoft will raise. But only after Yahoo has the time to consider the meaning of Microsoft not raising."

Yahoo is asking for a higher bid only because this is the only way now to reject Microsoft. The offer is PUBLIC, and Yahoo is the public company, which means that decisions can't be taken by the owners only. And this is exactly what Microsoft wants to do: they want all investors (especially the big ones) to vote for selling the company to Microsoft. And if this happens, they don't even need to offer a higher bid.

Yahoo will have to accept an offer from Microsoft at some point, simply because their shareholders will demand it.

    If they don't, they're idiots.

All shareholders are considered to be the "owners"...

The show is still on, it is not the end with Yahoo's initial rejection but the beginning of a long drawn negotiations and brinksmanship.

Microsoft would only lose money if they force themselves to buy Yahoo. Their staffs never did something good for the internet and I highly doubt Microsoft can compete with Google in search engine industry. Well, Microsoft is highly overrated these days. I even never used their Vista anymore because it sux and so buggy.

i don't think Yahoo will accept to be bought my Microsoft or if it accepts then the Authorities will not authorise the take over. I think Microsoft should think of something else and back out of this deal because it has no future.

I beg to differ on this, Microsoft is not strong online, together with Yahoo it is still minor in comparison to Google, therefore the anti trust regulations should be no issue. I guess Microsoft expert strategists already figured that out. Whether Yahoo will accept or not is still too early to say, they may be holding out for a higher price or Microsoft may launch a hostile bid for it publicly.

The Microsoft Yahoo ordeal is far from over.

For the sake of dominating the web Microsoft and Yahoo wants to compete with the King of Search Engine. Through their combination they are expecting for the downfall of Google....

The King of the Desktop versus the King of the Internet......but all in all these are big corporations fights nothing to do with small flies like us. Just hoping that the merger brought more competition and hence more choice rather than only Adsense and higher pay out from Adsense.

I hope they will merge sometime in the near future. They both can save a lot of money and therefore can provide better and cheaper quality services in the area they are the leader.

I don't really like hotmail, especially after it was bought. I killed my accounts there. Now, I don't like the new Yahoo mail (beta?) or even the classic one.

There's hardly anything MS I use except for their OS. I do hope Yahoo keeps its directory separate, but that's probably one thing MS will want too.

Microsoft will actively pursue this deal as it is a good move on their part. They eliminate competition and make themselves stronger in the process.

They are rich and they are determined, unless Yahoo improves itself tremendously, this is possible.

Microsoft and Yahoo combined will be a disaster for the net, and for Google.

Too much power will be given to one company! Microsoft is already too big, and with yahoo they will directly implement a deliberate integration of yahoos online services into future Microsoft Operating Systems!

This deal also will go through the anti trust regulators, and even if the Americans approve this deal, the European nation will definitely try to boycott this.

Btw....it should be noted that 90% of the major shaleholders of yahoo are ALSO major share holders of Microsoft. This is resulting in a conflict of interest for Yahoo shareholders, who don't want Microsoft to bid too much!
