Has anyone ever paid to get their site at the top of the results list?

Has anyone ever tried paying to get their site at the top of the list for Search Engine results?

I have always been very leary about this, especially with outside companies that claim they can do this. I wonder how an outside company can control how Google ranks sites? How can they make Google and other Search Engines rank my site higher.

If you have ever tried doing this, what kind of results did you have?

    Thanks.

Yes, people are paying a lot get their site on first page of search engine as they will also earn a lot from it.
i.e: if you are selling any products online and you are not on top page for you niche keywords. now seo can get it done and your site will have more traffic as a result your sale will also increase.
i did work for many sites and it is worth to pay SEO, as i m doing SEO since last 2 years.

I haven't used any SEO company. I just do it myself and have moderate success with it. You just need to know what to do.
No one can guarantee you a first page listing but its worth trying SEO wither yourself or hire a company / individual. There are people on this forum offering cheap SEO services.
Make sure that the company does not use blackhat techniques because it will get you ranking fast for short time then permanently banned from google.

agree with this comment, you can hire SEO person or company but check their previous work and experience. as some time people working and they them salves are not clear what they are doing. as a result site may affect. be precise regarding to work.

No, I've never paid. I've been doing SEO myself, it's not that hard if you spend a bit of time reading up on it.

i used one before.. overpriced... and they chose keywords that were only half relavent to my website.. so i would have been top of the search rankings.. but not from the keywords that would be most effective... doing it yourself is the best... or maybe get a fried or another someone else on your project to do it..

if you have no idea what to do.. this is the plce to find out!

Actually is called SEM...and you can guarantee certain rankings for certain keywords if you have experience and after a complete analysis...
so is not a general rule if the SEM company is really good and knows what is doing

There is no "unknown SEO secret" that us SEO professionals use. Speaking for myself, the key is consistency. By applying basic onsite/offsite SEO techniques CONSISTENTLY that have in the past proven to bring great search engine rankings, we can aim to get websites on the first page- or in some cases the first result- in Google.

It is absolutely true that nobody can "guarantee" ANY ranking- whether it's #1, first page or first 10 pages... In our case what we do is take a gamble. We apply practices that have proven to bring great results CONSISTENTLY over a 24 week period. If, after 24 weeks those techniques did not work for our clients, they are refunded their money.

Hopefully this clears up a little bit about what to expect from whomever you decide to hire for your SEO, if you so choose.

I'm pretty sure we've all paid something along the way - links, services, content etc.

I think you may be talking about a new service that sprung up a while ago that uses pay per click ads (PPC) to get your site to the top. From what I've heard, companies negotiate placement for A keyword and charge you for it. I think they use exact match and charge you for 6 months or a year so you will only rank for searches that are for the exact keyword e.g. if you purchased Viagra you would only rank for Viagra and not searches like Viagra for sale. You can save money by handling your PPC campaign yourself.

Outside company's can help control what Google likes by giving your site what it needs to get Google authority. As mentioned above, there are several tactics that usually work really well - no guarantees though.

JWRmedia, this is the silliest reply I've seen today, honestly.

If you like to gamble, I can recommend a few gambling sites but don't mess around with your potential clients websites and/or money.

If I combine this post with your thoughts on meta keywords that I've read earlier on another thread of yours I start understanding exactly why you call yourself a SEO "professional".

There are certain cases when you can guarantee the results. This usually applies to long tail or less competitive key phrases and should be based on every "specialist" previous experience and also on a proper analysis of the competitors (those ranked 1- 15, usually).

As for 100% refunds this is another silly thing I was never been able to understand. If you are able to provide 100% refunds it means that you are using only free resources in your SEO/SEM projects plus your time has no value.

There is absolutely no way to guarantee something you have no control over- your rank in Google, your article on the first page of Digg, etc. Unless you own Google and/or have complete control over how they rank sites, there is no situation in which you can guarantee a specific rank.

Secondly, our SEO techniques do involve many things which we have to pay for- not including our time. Yes, this is all valuable to us and this is why we only take clients which we are confident we can bring the desired results.

Well, it is really funny to read this

"There is absolutely no way to guarantee something you have no control over- your rank in Google, your article on the first page of Digg, etc. Unless you own Google and/or have complete control over how they rank sites, there is no situation in which you can guarantee a specific rank."

and then to see under your signature

    First page Google results- GUARANTEED!

These things don't match together, do they? :)

In order to prove my point I'm ready anytime to register a domain, you or myself we'll choose a longtail or less competitive key phrase and I will Guarantee first page placement within 3 months!

I'll do this only to see the so called specialists shuting their mouths once forever. The problem with most SEO/SEM providers is that they take clients money, if they achieve the proposed target, that's fine, if not they will keep on blaming algorithm changes, sun, wind, rain, SE's craziness, etc...
    This is wrong.
Obviously for competitive key phrases you must be mad to offer any guarantees but for less competitive or long tail stuff you can guarantee good placement for sure.
Just my two cents...wanna take the bet? :)

you can do it your self if you have the time effort and experience, but if you dont have this then i suggest that you get an seo specialist for you to get into the first page of search engine but be sure to choose the right seo company or seo free lance because they might trick you with good words and promotional tactics just try to look for some company or some one that will not guarantee you to be in the number 1 position but to be in the first page and gather quality traffic from their promotional tactics its like a package when you hire seo not only it will optimize your page but it will also gather quality backlinks and create a quality article for you to get some quality backlinks and quality traffic. send me a pm if you need more help.

I used to run the internet marketing division of a major US affiliate company ... we had lot's of call from companies wanting to put us in top position in the search engines ... any who said 'we guarantee ...' this and that, I automatically became apprehensive.

IMO, there are no guarantees. The companies that we ended up working with took time to work with us, advise us what needed to be done on top of a number of things. It was a learning process for both of us.

And yes, over time, we did achieve the results we were looking for !

How much did we pay? Alot, but it was worth it because we were converting

Those are really nice results. Do you promise a timeframe for how long a site will remain in the top rankings?

This is a really important point if you do pay for SEO. Don't be bullied into accepting keywords that will not gain any traffic. While it's always nice to be number 1 on google if you were running an online mobile phone store and they suggested a phrase such as 'minimal expense high tech mobile telephone' it won't do you any good if nobody searches for it. It may be that the phrase you really want is 'cheap mobile phones'.

A quality SEO firm should do keyword research for you as part of their service but I would always suggest you do your own keyword research as well so you know what the top tier keywords for your market are. SEO is only worthwhile if it generate enough traffic to make a postitive ROI.

Make sure you mutually agree on a keyword list, understand what is and is not included as part of the package, ensure it's all ethical SEO and if an offer sounds too good to be true such as top 10 google ranking for $79 it probably isn't true!!
