to be honest i've not kept up with things on the hardware front so would be no wiser to say i wanted one over the other. leave it to someone else to choose mine.

I don't know, I'm thinking of getting myself a small server, and maybe a cheap AMD chip will do well.

Intel. Intel is far superior now and looks like it will be in next-generation processors.
Have you seen their new 85-core processor? AMD doesn't stand a chance with performance now.

AMD had superior single-core technology, yes, but now Intel is rising up with its superior dual-core and beyond technology. Goodbye AMD. :)

I'd still go with AMD. The best bang for your buck processor.

    85 core processor? elaborate...
or do you mean their 8 core processor which is dubbed as "phail" by the recent people who got an.. ehh.. example copy?
you do realize that AMD can do an Intel and just stick two of it's quads on one die, right, and it'll be parr with Intels current 8 core processor

anyway, it's either Intel or AMD for me for my next PC since sony's cell processor isn't supported by windows (sigh)

and as for the last comment, "goodbye AMD"
there's still a long road to go down for AMD
it's been in worse situations than this in the past (before the athlon days)
they'll rise again, they just need hector rutz to fuck off or stop fucking up (phenoms anyone?)

I'm sure that intel AND amd thought about making dual core processors since they first started making them. Problem is, it takes time to develop them so they won't crash when you have two or more processors. The ps3 has 8 processors in the CELL chip. However they only managed to get a total of 7 to work right. Also they reserved 1 processor for the ps3 itself. Its not "as easy as amd stacking 8 processors together". they have to find a way to do that without any problems, just like intel did, and I guarantee you that isn't a fast thing to do, so you may have to wait awhile. The more processors they put into it, the higher the failure rate.
