it bugs me how people HATE vista, but LOVE firefox I just done a test and opened up a few web pages with firefox (in one tab) and recorded how it ate up 15mb of RAM in 1 minute, and doesn't release it (I'd youtube it, but the youtube player is too small to see the video properly, if anyone wants me to host it somewhere else let me know where) http://rapidshare.com/files/91435497/m.wmv
ok let me rephrase that how can people complain about vistas memory usage when they love, and live by firefox*
Exactly... You can't compare like that. Vista is a resource hog, bugs, driver issues. Firefox is not buggy, doesn't hog space (atleast for me), and no driver issues. THERE, I compared it even though I should not have
vista is an OS but Firefox is a browser! two different things, the severity of the effect is different does this help?
holy shit you guys are retarded if you don't get what I'm saying yes, I'm aware firefox is a browser and vista is an OS but firefox, on average, uses 150mb of RAM just for a browser how can you firefox lovers complain about vista, a WHOLE operating system, using 500mb when your god damn beloved browser uses 150mb on its own? you compare vista to XP well I compare firefox 1.5, and 1.0 to firefox 2.0 and 3.0 I've used firefox for a long time, and I've noticed firefox memory usage creeping up and up I mean, look at the video ffs starts off at 20mb with the firefox homepage open and 10 pages later (pages, not tabs. One tab open, navigating around DP) its 30mb, and I left it for awhile after the video and it didn't go down... at all. so, that's an average of 1mb per page what I'm getting at is people bitching and moaning about vista using more memory so what? everything uses more memory these days, even browsing the web upgrade your ram matter of fact /orders 2gb of ram for my laptop if a broke 16 year old who's in college and doesn't work can afford 2gb of ram, I'm sure you 35 year old "millionaires" can too and fyi, give me red rep for this post if you wish I'm expecting it, I don't care I just needed to get this off my chest
Because the extras that Vista uses RAM for are completely pointless. The extras that Firefox use RAM for are actually worthwhile and only make the Browser better. Since when are 16 year old's in college?
opera can do the same, and more, with 100mb less RAM even IE can do partially the same with 100mb less RAM, or even half a GB less RAM for some things and I live in England, we leave school at 16 and btw, pointless? sorry, I love my 15% faster OS that uses the RAM to it's full potential read up
Ok. 1. Resource hog, It takes a TON of resources which is like unnecessary. 2. BSOD please? When I used vista it gave me blue screens of deaths when I tried to install various software on my computer. 3. Driver issues oh my, I tried installing a printer and a business printer on a vista computer and both of them didn't work. Vista is like soooo horrible.
also one point you guys forgot is firefox is a freely available browser where as you need to pay for vista. so, that is obvious that people expect much better from it then firefox. Though firefox is giving a very nice browsing experience for free!!
1. http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/000688.html 2. never been BSOD'd on vista, but sorry it did for you 3. never had driver issues. and beyond that, the drivers aren't vistas problem. it's the manufactures fault try using a wonderful OS named ubuntu and find drivers for those printers
Uhhh I do have like ubuntu, it was for a business that had like vista.... Well it happened with other people also, so you like must be a magical fairy.
hey jw do you live in the OC or laguna beach, are you a valley boy? and BSOD's happened with them? I've used vista from the beta stages, and it's never happened with me, or anyone else I know who uses it maybe we're all just super lucky? who knows
I have found those that experience these 2 points in general never check with the software/manufacturer that there are proper drivers available for Vista or that the software will actually work in Vista (or require a hotfix to do so). The current version of Firefox does have memory issues. Even the Mozilla team acknowledges it. They have had the memory issue as one of their priorities for version 3. However, the ironic thing is that while the corewill be faster, the very plugins that make people attracted to Firefox will end up slowing their browsing speed/increase memory usage. There was some interesting talk on Firefox's memory issues @ http://it.slashdot.org/it/08/02/13/0344241.shtml for those interested.
Uhhhhhhhhhhh no? I live on east coast.... very nice joke... not. PEOPLE in general have had bsod errors, blue screen , had to shut down and their drivers for the products they used never worked. Super lucky for getting bsod, like nooo way..... Like super UNLUCKY. edit: I like know that firefox may have some memory issue, but what other browser do you choose to use?
