Please could you give an honest and open review on the design of website designed by a friend for a his friend (who has his own gas fitting company). He is not a professional designer although he is teaching himself, and this is his first fully developed website.

He has coded it in HTML 4.0 Strict and CSS and it is all valid. He would appreciate all feedback, and since he is not a member, I kindly said I would place it up here for him.

Please don't comment on the domain length, I know it is long, but the person he designed the website for insisted he wanted this domain.

    Here it is: http://www.barryjamesgasservices.co.uk/ .

Thanks in advance, me and my friend are greatful for your comments.

Yes, nice site, but like Alitta said, why dont add some footer. Without footer it`s so strange, like there is bug and I can look down...hm, just my suggestion. ;)

Thanks ofr your comments guys I'll let him know, I get what you mean. I think he needs to change some setting in the CSS code to make it appear better in all forums.

nice simple business card like website. I would recommend increasing the content font size. Also, maybe adding a contact form opposed to an e-mail address?to make it appears more professional.

Read above :), thanks for your comments.

Apparently my friend did the design straight from a business card (which my friend also designed) but he designed that first. Nice to see you noticed that.

Rep for you all guys, any more suggestions?

Some feedback from a copywriting standpoint:

The text of the front page is a wasted opportunity. The title shouldn't be "Introduction" and the basic services should be highlighted. I would move the entire text in the "About Us" section and start from scratch with a bigger emphasis on exactly what sort of services you provide, pricing and all this sort of stuff. The title should also be more creative. It's the first thing the visitors we'll see and it's worth the effort to put some work into it so these visitors actually become customers.

Readability should also be improved. I'm not a fan of colorful fonts, but a word written in a bold font every here and there could work wonders.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards, George

    Yup.There's no footer.
Make seperate blocks between header, navigation on the left, content and footer.Might consider to make another block on the right for some ads.
I like the design, it's very clean :)

Great feedback, I would double rep you if I could, I'll let my friend know, he said he is greatful for all your Thanks, this is only a threw up site really, I am sure there could be a lot more improvements, but we wanted a solid design first. But from that site coming from my friend who is a beginner, pretty good I thought. Anyway more to the point, thanks for your feedback.

    Thanks he'll appreciate that .

This suggestion has been pretty strong in this thread, I better let him know.

Update, he has just rang me, and he said thanks, he'll be straight onto it.

nice , clean and the best - easy to read and understand. Many companies nowadays make mega cool website with bad information on it.
    i'm giving 4.5/5 , those 0,5 go to graphic.
