New directory sites have HIGH PR

Discussion in 'Directories' started by bludevil, Feb 11, 2008.

Why is it some of the new Directory sites have a very high PR and have only been live for a few months? Is it the one way linking that does it or the reciprical linking with high PR sites? I guess if your link is on a bunch of high PR sites yours will have a good PR ranking eventually?

No what they are doing is buying expired domains with PR so as to get submitters then when its time
for the actual PR update it drops to nothing and they sell the directory...

Its like the guy whom bought a religious domain off all things and converted it to a general directory
just for the PR it had... He probably didnt even bother to look at the domain name before he bought it

Stay clear of these sites by checking the web archives to see when it became a directory

    thx

Its fine if you haven't paid to get in the directory, but as malcolm points out the pr drops, of course on any site the pr can/will drop but especially on a dropped domain as its backlinks that it collected in its previous life begin to drop off.

If their charging for a listing and calling it their pr 5-6 directory then its not cool.

Like uncle malcolm said, the lamerz are getting expired PR domains. But what aggravates me is their stupidity !

Example : how can you buy a domain name like : www.cheapdogfood.com and make it a directory & announce it here. Jesus !

Yes most are scammers, and tout their directories as PR5 Directories ect...for the folks that get tricked into buying featured and sitewide links it really sucks because they use those sales to justify selling the directories themselves to unsuspecting buyers saying they have revenue. I have followed a few of these in the past and PR usaully drops 2 to 3 ranks within the following to PR updates.

Bottom line is, if the Directory name makes no freaking sense, and is called a "New High PR Directory" ...beware!

its true whats been said re dropped domains on the whole
they can be turned around if you work on them though but thats not what most people are interested in

there are also other ways to see these directories with high pr and thats because some owners are interlinking within their own little networks
trouble is though when one or a couple of the sites in a network lose some pr the rest go with it

Exactly this directory interlinking is actually kind of risky if you take it in terms of PR. Also these high PR domains can be easily made by black domain shadow method having a directory re-direct to a high PR page & then chances are there that in the next update you will have a nice PR, but with no backlinks which makes it fake :)

its one thing to look out for when buying a directory cause Ive seen this happen before
they inflate the rank of a couple of dirs by linking on homepage within the network
then sell those dirs and remove the links
next update you lose the pr

The fake PR business is also being used for selling links and "review blogposts" nowadays. And people are so stupid they are actually falling for it.

Some of the DP members have bought old domains turned them in good general directories and have managed to retain the PR but for most others it's just ignorance and they get duped.

Yeah, that made sense. No way could a new directory only three months old have a PR4 rankings. Sometimes it takes months before you can get any PR rankings.

I don't agree with that. I got my first PR3 after 4 months of launching my site :) So a 6 month old directory can have PR3-5 (maybe 5 if the link building and advertising was aggressive). We are discussing 'new' directories having PR here :) In this case it's either PR for expired domain or a fake PR as others have suggested.

I agree with this and know it for a fact. Its not just directories that can obtain PR +3 within a very short space of time. Lots depend on when you actually set up the site, whether you caught it in Googlemode and so. At one time if I remember correctly virtually every directory across the board were given a 4. PR is shite anyway, I'm amazed people are still buzzing about it.
