You probably want to get yourself a rebuilt car for that price. Make sure it is a quality car and that it runs well and you will usually come out on top. You just gotta do your research on em first.
If you want something that lasts...I suggest a civic. I know it's a ricer car, but it runs great and it'll last you a LONG time.
Well with that budget you can get a good sports car in good condition, look for toyota and mitsubishi brands. I strongly suggest mitsubishi eclipse. less than 200,000 km mileage is still good..
I wouldn't expect a sports car for 4 grand, you can get a quality toyota corolla though, they last forever.
