There's a lot of ways on how to increase traffic on your blog. Blog commenting, forum posting, article submission, blog submission on directories, creating fan page, etc.
Have you heard about the bookmarking site Hacker News ? It has given me tremendous traffic since last couple of months. And then ofcourse there are so many networking sites like Reddit, Digg (which you already mentioned) Stumble, Diggo, Delicious. I would recommend you to check out the 'addthis' widget and register and bookmark your stuff in all the sites available in that list. Don't devote the entire time to this method as many users modify their profiles to disable showing signatures >> Read others blogs and comment on their blogs.
