As others have already recommended to you, I must too. Don't use Frontpage or anything similar. If you really need to, use Dreamviewer but you will be better off writing your code from scratch in notepad or some other simple editor. You will:

    1) Learn how html and css works
    2) You will get nice, structured and well organized code
    3) You will know your code so it will be easy for you to edit it in the future
    4) Most professionals code by hand, without using any crappy apps like Frontpage (especially Frontpage's code is really horrible...)

NO, dont use dreamweaver, it costs to much and the code is just as bloated as frontpage's code is. I suggest downloading editplus, play around with it using preview mode until you come up with what you like.

I've been programming computers for thirty years - and in that time I have concluded that as far as doing ANY sort of coding goes, there is only one certainty.

The day you think there's nothing new to learn, is the day the world leaves you behind. I look at my own code of just two years ago with total disgust... Which is the key - you need to recognize the good, adopt the good, and adapt as the world changes.

thank for the comments. i will consider what you said. i do plan to have a professional create a high end site for me, but for the interim i'm creating a basic site to see if persons would be interested in such a site.

Can anyone let me know how i could make my site appear as though it is floating on a coloured or textured background?

I have tried this: <div style= color>table</div>, but when i give the container a colour the background of the table also changes colour.

can i use <div> with xhtml, and what is the solution to this?
