It brings by a serious a responsibility. I believe only people who have stable pshycology and clean record should be privilidged to have it, not just anybody. Also, i don't feel comfortable with the idea that those who have kids have guns in the house, unless it's very highly necessary, and restrictly kept out of their reach.

You might think this is really bad. It is not. While Texas does sentence the most mentally handicap people to the death sentence, it does not have the largest number of death sentences. That record belongs to Virginia with 1500 or so. As for the thing on guns should or should not be outlawed, it would work if the govt could take EVERY SINGLE gun out of the hands of the people4 registered or not, it would work. But since that is utterly impossible, it is a bad idea to take them away from all citizens. Don’t give them to felons and it will cut it down. Will they still get the guns? Yes. Will they get as many of them? No. allow citizens small caliber weapons for home protection, but keep large caliber weapons in the hands of law enforcement. It will be a great way to protect your family, but if a gang banger should get one, the collateral damage will be much less server. The amount of powder is less= less speed. The number of different types of ammo for say a .22 is very limited= no armor piercers, no explosive rounds, no tracers. Keep a small caliber hand gun some place safe and use it for protective reasons only. Do not take the guns out of the hands of the people, they will be defenseless.

My 5 year old nephew was killed by police officers. The grandfather talked about in this story is my dad. Should police officers have their guns taken away?

I remember that thread quite well. While I certainly support firearms for police officers, that case was an example of pure idiocy in that particular police force that deserved to be investigated. Where I'm from, if a cop discharges his weapon for any reason, he has to fill out a crapload of paperwork explaining what the circumstances were. I'm not talking about a simple form, I'm talking about a small stack of paper along with a Q&A. It makes cops very wary of discharging their weapon unless absolutely necessary, which is the way it should be.

Yes... same here where I am from. One of my friends just joined the police force and even pulling the weapon out of its holster requires a ton of paper work. If discharged... I believe it is a stack of about 900 papers they have to go through. Which in one sense is good... but on the other hand... perhaps a few less cops would have been shot to death across Canada if that wasn't the case!

Agree with that. But then its hard to moderate.

Because the people who have lived clean lives will sell the guns and get a lot of money for it. And the criminals will end up with the guns.

My point is that people are going to do stupid things with weapons on occasion, but even having a death in my close family doesn't make me feel as though we should get rid of guns in our country. It will not have very much effect on the deaths as a result of them.
