Why don't most proxies work?

I know it may sound somewhat idiotic, but i have seen lot's of proxy sites which dont work at all. do proxy sites require regular maintenance?

I have bought a proxy site recently www.onlineviewer.info , and it seems to work fine for me, but last night a friend from hungary said he cannot access this site at all! Is there anyone who can help me on this one?

Or do we have guys from other countries who could just check whether the link works for them? Make sure to surf a site also, and post here if it has a problem.

what site did u check? Would you mind posting the link? Are you from canada, that may be the reason of the redirection?
