Hi everyone, Can someone tell me please, polite salutation as "Dear Sirs" is for only men or it can be used as the polite greeting in the letter for both men and women? Thanx in advance
Dear Sir or Madam is better - it assumes the recipient could be either sex. It is better etiquette to write to a named individual - see if you can find out the person's name and sex.
It is ok when you know the sex, but if no and you are writing official letter, what if it goes to Mam or Madam? That won't be good
are you from India? i find their over "polite salutation" quite annoying. unless you are writing a formal letter, there are no need to call someone dear sir or dear friend
No, I'm not from India I use Hi, Hello and Greetings but still there a re some cases when I should and maybe even obliged to write in a very formal and official style, believe me, there is such a need sometimes. So I was just curious...
