Just use the info command on google to see if the domain name matches or not, i think that is your most reliable option.

Sure, put this in the google search box, site:sitename, if the result returned mathes the sitename then the site in question has a genuine pagerank, if the result returned has a different sitename, then the site has a fake pagerank

Hi thank you for sharing this with us. I want to make sure I got it right, though....

    example:
    site:http://forums.digitalpoint.com/

When the results come up if it said "The Duck Hunting Company" then it would mean DP "stole" that company's page rank in a way? (Just using as example to make it easy! lol)

But if it comes up as "Digital Points Forums" at top of results, then it is legit?

    Thanks a ton. :)

Check to the google cache, for example:
    cache:your_domain

if the cache is of another site it's a fake PR.
Look at this page too for fake page rank checker and other info:
    scriptidea.net/linkappraisal

    Hi friend,
TextLink value results are + or - very near to real market price.
Domain Appraisal depends by other factors too that can be calculated automatically, even if i think they for 70% of domain are near to the real price. The domain price is calculated keep in mind the PR, Alexa Ranking and and other details like Year of Registration, Link Popularity and so on.. so cause PR and Alexa are very variable factors and not always respect the truth, for this matter results sometimes doesn't respect the real traffic/value of a domain. I have domain with Alexa rank >10.000.000 with PR1,2 that have a lot of traffic more than a Alexa 700.000 and same pagerank, so real values could not be the same.
Look at the scriptidea.net it has a 700.000 AR and a traffic of 100-150 unique visit/day, than musicpriceguide.com has 12.000.000 of AR but more than 500 unique visit x day. So use it to have a base idea than you can check many more detail like domain name and words in it, content of the site and so on. The most difficult thing is on PR6 or higher that depends a lot on marketing they have done and of NO TRAFFIC, PARKED domain where all depends on domain name and it's impossible to calculate a real value cause the script doesn't have elements.
Any comment and suggestion are always welcome.
    thx

Alexa Ranking is very easy to fake, i have seen a lot of domain registered few months ago that have less than 500.000 of Alexa Ranking, so if the site doesn't have a big investment or SEO work on it i dude it could have this Alexa Ranking only adding some content to a site. I think that who has an high alexa traffic with a < 1 year domain has done something to decrease it. It's only my opinion :)
    thx
