Unbelievable the amount of bashing the Zango affiliate program gets on this and other webmaster forums. I'm convinced that many of these types of posters have no experience with Zango, or do have Zango experience but just couldn't get it to work right for them. The following are some of the more popular Zango bashing allegations, and my responses from over a year of heavy Zango promotion: 1. Zango is spyware Spyware is typically defined as any software that aids in gathering information about a person or company without their knowledge. The Zango toolbar does not do this. It is more correctly categorized as adware, which is defined as any software application where advertising banners or windows are displayed while the program is running. You may take issue with adware, but in any case it is not spyware. 2. Once installed, Zango is nearly impossible to get off your computer. Wrong. The Zango toolbar can be completely uninstalled via the add/remove programs application in Windows. To test I installed the toolbar onto my PC. I then uninstalled it via that windows feature. It is gone. To the people that say "many users don't know how to uninstall applications" I say that is not a Zango issue. 3. Google and the other SEs will penalize your ranking if you promote Zango Wrong. I have several websites that have been promoting Zango for over a year. Several websites get many thousands of Google visitors each day, and the numbers are growing. They also get over a thousand Yahoo and MSN visitors each day. Some webmasters will blame just about anything when their SE rankings begin to tank and they lose all that organic traffic. Someone show me PROOF that pushing Zango caused their website to tank, or kept their website from flourishing. Zango is just an easy target for the amateurs who don't know what they're doing. 4. You will never get return visitors if you promote Zango Utterly false. The people that make this claim are alleging that your visitors will be so outraged and pissed that you are promoting Zango that they will leave ... never to return. One of my websites now gets over 1500 return visitors per day. That number too is climbing. Of the millions of unique visitors that my Zango sites have received, I have received ZERO complaints. I clearly and plainly display my "suggestions/comments" email on each page. This goes for both my Zango syndicated and gateway programs. 5. Zango earnings will drop to almost nothing after awhile This one makes me shake my head. I think the argument here is that after awhile you will saturate the market, and everybody will already have the toolbar installed. I suppose if your website doesn't grow, and you get the same 200 visitors each day that might be true. Otherwise totally untrue. My earnings have increased EVERY month for a year. Well there you go.... my responses to the above common Zango complaints, all based upon my own year-plus experiences. Take it or leave it.
why would you want to whole world to use it? why not keep it to you? you get to earn just once? so might be bettee if not too many use it? and it will saturate oneday.. faster if you make it too viral.. No more source for you.
If it works for you then you don't need to clarify to others. we only clarify things when we are losing something. and since this is not the case why worried about others. is bill gate worried about other people not making money? I don't think so.
This is very interesting. As you say, there are those that bash Zango on other affiliate forums and threads and it is always good to hear both sides of the story. Thanks for the input.
a lot of people say that who promote zango is putting adware in people's computer, thats lie,the user choose if wants or not install, and there is a license agreement text to the user now what he will install
you are not giving them a chance? they want to see your content so they are forced to install it only to findout that it is a adware. most who install it is by curiosity and ignorance.
The reason it gets bashed on so many affiliate forums is because it steals the income of affiliates. It is adware. Take Clickbank for example. An affiliate of clickbank decides he wants to purchase popups from Zango to promote a Clickbank program. He chooses the domain of the site he wants to promote, and uses his hoplink for this product in the popup that visitors get when they have Zango installed. Now, say another affiliate is spending his hard earned money to promote the same Clickbank product. The visitor goes through this affiliates hoplink to the site, and immediately gets the popup from Zango from the other affiliate that is advertising through Zango, the Clickbank cookie from the first affiliate is overwritten, and his commission that should have been rightfully his is now gone. The affiliate using Zango to advertise did nothing to earn the commission on this sale, but stole the commission by poppinp up his hoplink whenever anyone goes to the merchants domain. Many affiliate programs will terminate their affiliates if they are found to be advertising using these methods.
That is so true.. well said. You gotta know this before you are happy posting your check and thinking it is not better than pointing a gun at someone and get there money.
Just thought I would add a link to a video showing the popup in action: http://www.keywordthinktank.com/public/adware/clickbank_adware.html
people gotta watch this.. then tell the thread starter how he earned. i think you would say you wont care as long as you make money? but that is not a nice thing to do business.. of course you get paid but they get the payment form stolen commissions. Is that great for any zango users? i dont think so..
andheresjohnny i totaly agree with you on all points im using zango since 25 or more and i have no problems whatsoever
3. Google and the other SEs will penalize your ranking if you promote Zango That one is actually true, I've had that problem with two of my websites, when I removed the Zango code it just got back to the normal ranking.
Well, you know your website better than I. However I think it unlikely based upon the history of my websites and the dialog of other Zango affiliates. As you know so many factors affect your rankings. I think it more probable that other factors contributed to the change in position. However if I was in your position and I was certain then I wouldn't use it either. Just one question ... how long did it take for your sites to come back .. 1 day, 1 week, 1 month? Thanks.
Interesting information... On your big websites with zango, you mention something about a "suggestions/comments" email. Can you please explain this? Do you have something on each page that explains what zango is, or what? Also, for the returning visitors that don't want zango, they might get angry at having the same popup every time they visit your site, no? Is there a way to block zango from showing to the people that have been there in the past week or so? I have a fairly large site with great returning visitors and organic traffic, so I am hesitant to use Zango for this reason. I know that if I were to come across a site that periodically asked me to install something, I wouldn't come back to the site. Thanks for the help.
You can specify the frequency the gateways are shown per day per user and per visit, and also what happens if they decline to install whether they can still view your content or not. Most if not all aspects are configurable, for more info drop me a pm about your niche and site and Ill let you know if its worthwhile or at least if its suitable for your traffic.
