John McCain: Unfit for Command?

An interesting letter sent to VDARE.com from a former pilot makes some good points:

McCain III, however, was a mediocre midshipman (894 of 899 in his class) who became an average attack pilot with a history of foolish mishaps in the training command and the fleet. Without the admirals in his family tree, I doubt his career would have survived his crashes.

That’s FIVE destroyed aircraft on McCain’s record for those who are wondering. The media is waiting for McCain to become the nominee before they pounce. I’ll predict we will hear endlessly about how “brilliant” and “smart” Hillary is versus McCain. And unlike the criticism of Bush’s academic record versus Al Gore, the media will be right this time.

    But more importantly:

All [POWs] were unbalanced. The ones I knew who were long-time POWs—with one exception and that exception I knew only very slightly—were high-functioning lunatics. Common denominators were trouble with alcohol, cars, divorces, tempers and aggressive flying verging on recklessness—a very unwelcome trait in a fighter pilot.
But while McCain was able to get flight orders after Hanoi, he was never assigned to a line attack squadron or a carrier air wing again.

Once he got out McCain stayed in the Navy but was not promoted to flag rank, retiring as a Captain in 1981.

Should the fact that the Navy passed on a third consecutive Admiral John McCain tell us something? Maybe – in 1980 anyway – the collective wisdom of the Navy was greater than that of Arizona’s voters a few years later.

And the punchline: is Johnny Boy fit to be Commander-in-Chief?

The combination of the moral, mental and physical injuries of years of captivity deranged McCain. Like many of the other POWs I know, McCain has a sense of superiority to those who haven’t suffered what he has.

McCain doesn’t listen. He likes to stir things up—like his “Banana Bill”— but I don’t see any principled pattern to his outbursts. Compounding his problem, McCain must be in chronic pain from injuries that never healed properly. He may be medicated.

Republicans, can’t we do better than nominating a potentially loose cannon?

He is insane. And if he gets elected president will further the decline of this country.

Apparently now that Ron Paul is officially insignificant, his fans have moved on to trashing John McCain.

    HA HA HA!

Keep it up, fellas! From what I've seen, you're definitely the most entertaining group in politics. :D :D :D

I see that. I guess i just need to spend more time here in P&R. Unfortunately that usually means that seo-guru ends up getting banned. :(

That letter has the smell of swift boaters. It is astounding how political attacks on vets come flying out of the most conservative wing of politics.

Swift boaters attacked Kerry while their candidate danced, partied, drank and avoided service in Vietnam, most probably because his daddy was important.

Romney was on a Morman mission in France during Vietnam. How he avoided service .......who knows.

John McCain was an acknowledged knucklehead during his time at Annapolis. He was shot down and because his father was a big shot....he was given the opportunity to be released by the North Vietnamese. He refused that gift and stayed with other prisoners.

You don't like McCain....attack him on the issues on which you don't agree. I don't agree with his stance on the war. It is IMHO a continuation of a policy that tricked the American public into going to war, has drained the American public, the military, our budgets and weakened our stances across the world.

Don't attack his service. Attacking McCain on his service is a disgrace to men and women who serve the nation.

Some sacrifice while serving. Others sit around and moan groan and point the finger at others. Those that would stoop so low as to attack someone who was a prisoner of war have no respect for the nation, the 2-3 million in service now, the 10's of millions who are vets, and the others who serve the nation.

GS is hardly as polarizing, confrontational and menacing as GT.

You contribute less than nothing to the substantive discussions in this forum, but merely participate in the same round robin taunting and goading that your cohorts promote, in order to achieve bans, censorship and conduct immoral rep attacks.

Is it any surprise that people would resent your posts? It's a response you strive to achieve.

Honesty would be a thing for some here to try out. It would go a long way in furthering civil discussion.

He is actively hostile to anyone that has views differing to his own, all he wants to do is post doom & gloom, if you don't agree with him you get abuse.

It is painful to watch you trying to defend GS.

I suppose you have to compare him to something you detest; so you can argue he looks good by comparison.

That "loose cannon" has done a fine job as a Senator for 20 years.

    I think he's earned a promotion.

That is true, but GTech is above banning so can continue posting with impunity.

That is why I had him on permanent ignore for over a year now. :D

As for an answer to the OP, of course he's unfit for command, he's a war crazed lunatic.
