Great thread. So what would you suggest? To write your own ebook or promote one?

In order to create your product that's super profitable - you can do this:

    - Find a profitable crap product - and make it 20 times better - IE - Legit Online Jobs. lol.
    - Create Your own Membership Website - IE: Wealthy Affiliate [its hard to top wealthy affiliate]
    - Put out a whole bunch of commercial products and hope you get lucky!!!! :D

Rebranding is something that happens EVERYWHERE. Look at the big supermarkets - they directly rip off brands and cut the price right down.

    That's rebranding.

Good post. I got an idea that would definitely sell out, but I'm worried that if it gets too popular the rules might change.

Judging by the pm's and the post here, I am glad this thread has made a impact in some people's mind.

It is now time for you to create a uniquely good product to discourage any competition.

Someone mentionned buying PLR ebooks. You might want to try that but chances are that some of your customers have bought this same PLR ebook already so your refund rate might be high... I also recommend you support any ebooks with simple applications or online forms just so that the customers feels that you have a tailored solution to his problem...

Good luck and feel free to report here.

I'm going to play a little Evil Advocate here :]

this is a great post, I always say that some people are meant to follow and others are meant to lead.

    However, Here's a point.

Being an affiliate doesn't mean you're a follower. It really doesn't.
    - It just means that you are outsourcing product creation.

Think about it, are you a follower because you create a product?
maybe you are, maybe you aren't.

You know who's really cashing big?
    The AFFILIATE program!

So, in actuality - if you're not the head of the affiliate program, then you are a follower correct?
    maybe, maybe not.

What really determines the leader is how you approach this internet business - No matter what you do.

    Are you a Free-lancer?

    Follower
Works hard until his eyes falls of, doesn't work smart [just like you said]
Depends on others to get work

    Leader
You may work for others, but you may also outsource that labor
You may start up a company of writers under your name
You end up making your money work hard for you

    Are you an affiliate marketer?
    Habits of affiliate Follower
    - Throw up a squidoo and some links
    - Write product reviews of a billion different products
    - Use PPC to drive traffic directly to the vendor's page

    Habits of Affiliate Leaders
    - Drive traffic to their own websites - use affiliate marketing as one of many sources of income
    - Build their own e-mail list and recommend products
    - Have an empire of websites, all with multiple monetization methods
    - Outsource labor from other people

Do you have your own product?

    Product creator followers
    - Do everything all by themselves, use time instead of money [unless you really don't have the money lol.]
    - Stop at one product

    Product creator leaders
    - Build list, outsource labor, use affiliate programs
    - outsource practically everything - making their money work hard for them

So you see, being an affiliate is not being a follower - it just depends on how you approach the business.

As an affiliate, what happens if the publisher:
-decides to pull his product out of the market?
-> The affiliates has to found another product

-Change the price of the product?
-> the affiliates has to update his website, pitch, reviews and hope the price is right.

    -Change the landing page?
-> the affiliate has to hope that his conversion rate will stay the same or improve

-Decide to rip his customers off?
-> most of the time the affiliates who keeps on promoting such products looses credibility and repeat businesses. AT best the affiliates becomes aware of it and has to react accordingly

    -Clickbank doesn't track the commissions?
-> The affiliate can't do much but put up or shut up...

You see, the affiliate, even with a leading approach to business is still dependant on many "micro" changes that makes him a "follower" in a sense that he doesn't have 100% control of his business.

The publisher is still subject to changes but theses are more due to macro economic factors (interest rates, competition, technological advances ...) In that sense he has taken a leader position in a sense that he's considered to have 100% control of his business.

To make a metaphore, the publisher is tha captain of the boat, riding the market. Affiliates are all crew members, however good they may be. Would you rather be the captain or the crew member? The choice is yours.

You are very wise my friend :]
    - seriously, great comeback.

But I still don't think you get the jist of what I'm saying.

Basically - it depends how you approach it. I guess you can say Myspace is a "follower" - since they depend on "adsense" ads - which is like pay-per-click affiliate marketing.

Like i said, you can even call most product creators "followers" since they don't set up their own affiliate programs. They depend on clickbank to find affiliates for them - correct? So aren't you a "follower" of some sort?

The United States depends on China for cash temporarily for now - but do you still consider the US to be a "global leader" or a "global follower".

If you build your own "empire" of websites, build your own e-mail lists, and have multiple monetization - you're a "leader" type affiliate.

Even leaders/players of a team have to follow the coach :]

You take a more philosophical approach to it than me. And it is true we are all followers of some sort at some point of our life even in business. But in business the role of leader goes to the one who has the edge. If you have the product, the asset, you have the edge, you are the decision maker and the rest can only follow your direction.

I think we can corner each other with arguments here but we will definitely agree on one thing: smart work often pays off, hard work often doesn't.
