My SERP dancing - what does it mean?

Discussion in 'Google' started by andrej, Feb 5, 2008.

I have a site that is "dancing" on Google from the 10th page to the 5th page ranking and then back and again for its main keyword. This happens already for 4 weeks (one week the 5th page, the other the 10th) since my site came out of sandbox.

I wonder what does this mean? Anyone has an experience with this?

I would imagine you are seeing results from different data centers and your rankings have not yet settled (Although this generally only lasts a few days rather than a few weeks).

Unless you keep changing things with your content and pages which is causing the fluctuations, I would just continue to build new links into your site.

That might be the case, as it's a blog and I post 1-2 times a week.

    Yeah, I'm still building links.

That's it. You are seeing results from different data ceneters.

The question is which index will propagate across the google data centers

Different datcenters will return different results. Also, the more competition there is for a particular keyword, the more the results will change.

I have noticed this too, and have also seen that it is at 1 week intervals. I dont think its different data ceters, as an update there is less than a week and you often don't see this extreme modification when you do a multiple data center search.

I think that it is google optimizing thier algorithm. Essentially, as they improve thier algorithm, they will try 2 different versions of the algo a week at a time to try to give an indication of which one is providing more relevance. Once they have determined the best tweek, the start oscilating another 2 versions.

I have seen this process of oscilating to optimize in some PPC literature by affiliate marketers, and I think it is relevent to thier algorithm as well.

Thats my take on it anyway.

This has been going on since the dawn of time and will continue long after you and I are gone. It means absolutely nothing.

I think I would agree with you.

Google dance is normal, but it moves your site's SERP max. within 1 page, not 5 pages I think.
