I've been doing rather well with a particular product via Google Adwords. Sadly, the competition has been strong and its suddenly turned bad. I have JUST started to learn about SEO and see that my site is actually ranked on the 2nd and 3rd page for many of its terms! This is my question: Lets say I am selling Nike Sneakers. MY main site is at a unspecific, non-keyword domain. Lets calll it anxasjkd.com/asd When marketing my site, I decided to call it NikeSneakersCheap.com I have NikeSneakersCHeap.com ROUTE to anxasjkd.com/asd Yet it is RANKING as anxasjkd.com/asd in the SE's. Now -- should I delete it as anxasjkd.com and move everythign over to NikeSneakersCheap.com ? Or should I just go with it? Also, I have NO inbound links but really want to get to the top. Is this how I should do it? Or should I just work at making my site more SEO friendly? Also, if I do a Press Release, I'd like to use NikeSneakrsCheap.com .. will google always see NikeSneakersCheap.com as really anxasjkd.com/asd ?? THANKS!
If you have no (or few) inbound links to anxasjkd.com/asd I would go ahead and move your entire site to NikeSneakersCheap.com
Agreed. Also, you don't want any redirects, etc. setup if you're trying to optimize your site. It will also be easier to SEO with your keywords or product appearing in your domain name. Move everything over to the "NikeSneakersCheap.com" site, optimize it even better than before, work on some inbound links and you should see it ranking just as well or better than your redirected URL now.
Move everything over but mirror it for a couple days so you don't lose anything. Then hopefully you can come close to picking up where you left off. The only thing is, with Google, there just isn't any guarantees!!
I would suggest going to the new domain name and doing a 301 redirect on the old domain. You may feel some slight pain in the beginning but all should sustain itself in short time. This article suggest some advanced solutions: http://www.tamingthebeast.net/articles3/changing-domain-names.htm
Currently NikeSneakersCheap.com DOES go to my site, but in the SE's, that name is not shown at all, its the anxasjkd.com/asd . If I set up NIkeSneakersCheap.com, would it throw off any dupe content things?? Also, if I am on the 3rd page, and the top guy only has 80 incoming links or so, and isn't content rich at all, can I get up there and play with the big boys soon?
Move all the pages to your new domain. If you are getting good traffic from your old site then use redirects to send all the visitors to your new website.
I would recommend that u first dump all the content on to the nikesneakerscheap.com and then make a permanent 301 redirect which will pass all the values to the new site and then do all the optimization on that site. A keyword rich domain name is one of the most important factor for ranking.
